NC Star compact scope on AR15?

Hi,

I'm just curious to know if anybody has any first-hand experience with the basic NC Star compact rifle-scope (from Marstar) on an AR15. I already have the Picatinny riser, and this seems like a reasonable scope (which seems to suit the AR) to see if I want to move to an optical site ... as opposed to irons. This would be for informal range shooting, between 50 - 150 yards. (I have old eyes.)

I do have glass from Leupold, Pentax, Nikon and Mueller, and am aware that you normally get what you pay for, but I also know that some reasonably-priced optics can do a decent job for a long while. So, any first-hand feedback on that NC Star ... or any similar NC Star?

Thank you!

If you already have leupold glass you will be very disappointed with NC star. I have not tried NC but I did get the marstar style"holo-sight" and it was garbage. I would just spend a bit more initially, you will be happier in the long run.

The old "topic sentence in a paragraph" rule ...

Like ... they haven't sold any in Canada yet?

I have a 4 power nc star compact scope on a sks,it's okay on an sks, don't think I would put a $50 on a $1500 rifle though. the eye relief seems short, the tube is pretty small . it is okay for 100 yd plinking

Merci ...

Hey SCS,

Thank you.

(And thanks too to the other two members who took the time to respond.)

Now, that's a beginning ... that's the reason that I made this post.

I have a great Leupold Ultralight EFR ($550 in North Dakota just after they appeared) on my Anschutz .22 Sporter, so I'm not a cheapskate.

And my Stag AR was about $1500.

But I'm also Scottish, and I know that my Chinese-made Mueller APV is a great scope ... for the money. Gotta keep an open mind.

I know that Marstar will stand by their guarantee, but (as we all know) the to-and-fro shipping costs on an inexpensive purchase like this will just about negate the benefit of any guarantee.

So ... once again ... does anybody else on the site OWN one??

I just recently purchased this one;
NcS-STPAQ3942G-L.jpg

It is a 3-9X42 P4 Sniper model. The only thing that I dislike is that when I turn on the green or red illumination that I can see the dust inside the scope. Although the great thind about this scope is that it has a built in range finder and also it has reticale focus knob. It is mounted on my RPK/CZ 858 and I love it. The best thing is that I am very abusive with this rifle expecatly with 3 gun compitetions an I don't even care if I break it.
Good luck!

Progress!!

Thank you Mr. S ... now we're getting somewhere :)

Any other comments from other owners who have also bought them recently?

Thanks in advance.

I bought an SKS-D a couple of years back and it has an N-Star 4 power on it. Like SCS previously stated in this thread, it's okay on an SKS for plinking at moderate ranges but if you expect to do any sort of accurate work forget it. Spend a little (or a lot) more money up front and you won't be disappointed. A $100 scope on a $1200 rifle seems silly. My rule of thumb is spend at least 1/2 the value of the rifle on the optic. My 2 cents.
