I have tried to give NcStar a chance, and I will let you quote me on this:
Stupid, stupid, stupid idea.

The biggest problem I find is the aluminium they use seems to be softer than pure gold (how that is I don't know) causing stripped bolts, damage and failure of optics. I don't hate them, I just will never buy again and I have proof why: I have/had six NcStar products and three broke, two I never use (maybe why they last) and one I had to fix:
"MARF" AR riser: hand tightened the thumb nuts by hand (no wrench) and stripped the steel bolts out of the aluminium body, replaced the bolts and thumb nuts because I had free stuff lying around to do it with; mostly because I chopped it a bit for looks/fit and I didn't want to do that on nice stuff. I know that twisting screwdrivers as an electrician for many years gives me strong forearms, but I shouldn't be able to tear bolts out of aluminium like that.
"MAR6" AR handle mount: never use it that much, but if I was going to use it all the time I would throw that one in the trash and buy a good one.
A discontinued tactical AR handle mount only 4x fixed scope: bought on a major sale, I think 60% off, since guy wanted to clear out discontinued product, never use it other than to check ammo on a sled (why it may be ok, lack of use). No more than 40 rounds though it of 223.
"MARFLR" Rear flip-up sight: the bolt/rod the flip-up rotates on was was out of alignment, the rear sight was also cast hugely out to one side (unable to adjust far enought to sight-in) and after 5 flips the little detent flew out (due to horrible alignment).
"DBB130" Red dot: bought for a friend and first couple of shots of the 22LR the recoil broke the laser inside and nothing would make it work.
"D4B" Red dot: was given it as a gift. First, the sight-in adjusting screw locks didn't work so recoil changed the point of aim drastically; then trying to get it off after setting the mounting bolts at 10 inch-pounds torque they stripped coming out (aluminium body and aluminium bolts); and when I packed it up to have it exchanged/warranty the glass fell out. Threw it in the trash.
Most of these happened over a couple of years: kept trying to give it a change in case the last one was a lemon. Never again. 50% "failure", 16.6% "repair" and 33.4% "can't trust to use a lot" is proof enough for me.
