Apparently Norinco is making their NDM-86 in two new calibers

5.8mm Chinese, and 336 magnum.

the 336 is said to have more punch than 7.62 Nato, but less than a .338 Lapua Magnum. The 5.8 isn't as relevant, since this is a .30cal forum, but it supposedly is slightly better than 5.56 ballistically.

discuss.

Yep. It is a clone of the Dragunov rifle and as such is porhibited by OIC 12(5).

so it seems, but it is never referred to as a dragunov by name (properly) and the Norinco design (internally) is reverse-engineered from a dragunov (iirc,) so they're not quite the same, also, sec. 12(5) only refers to the dragunov by name as being a so called 'AK-47' derivative, the NDMs are not variants of the ak-47 as most people know, (neither are drags, but they're mentioned by name), however, the NDM is not mentioned, so I believe one could make an argument stating that it is not an AK-47 variant, also using the valmet/Self Loading Rifle defense.

What do you think, GunNutz, is there any precedent for this sort of thing?
