NEA 10.5 qwirks

I got a question for you fellows. I have a NEA 10,5" upper that I bought new unfired from another fellow. The problem is that it will not hold the bolt open on the last round. I am using an STI lower that works fine with the factory upper just not with the NEA. Any thoughts on what could be causing this? I have tried the same loads in others and have not haved any problems.

That is often a magazine issue. Try it with different magazines and see what happens.

I am using P Mags and they seem to work fine with the STI upper.

of you rack it with an empty mag in it, does it lock back?

if it does, the rifle may be short stroking just a slight bit not allowing the bolt to lock back.

the STI a longer barrel i assume? buffer or spring issue?

I ran into a guy who had the same issue. The rifle wouldn't lock back with PMags but it would lock back on GI mags. I inspected the inside of the lower and compared it to my Spikes lower that works perfectly with PMags and couldn't see any obvious differences.

My NEA won't lock back on early model PMags, but later version PMags, USGI, and LAR all work fine.

Whatever difference is causing this issue is in the lower not the upper so buy away good sir.

If the rifle is firing, extracting and cycling you're looking at a lower/mag issue.

The STI/STI combo works because it was made to work at the factory. There are many modifications that are done at assembly to ensure that the complete rifle runs. They're not assembling it to work with other peoples combinations after the fact. While many people to believe the AR platform to be 100% interchangeable, it simply isn't the case. Especially when it comes to swapping major components on a complete rifle. It's the major reason why almost every rifle manufacturer doesn't warranty their rifles once you modify it. There's just too many variables.

I tracked down the problems to a bad batch of P Mags. I guess when a deal seems to good to be true it usually is. The new batch works fine.
