I'm sure I'll draw some haters out with this thread but thats alright, because I'm fairly f'ing annoyed..

I decided I wanted to add a foregrip on my vz 858 so I first needed to find an aftermarket lower handguard. NEA's product(from the pictures) looked to best suit my needs, as I didn't want a bulky plastic peice. So after spended the $95 dollers on the lower handguard I had to purchase the NEA 4" rail(to attach the foregrip to) for another $30(way overpriced IMO) anyways I was set now as far as I was concerned.

Installation of the rail segment to the lowerhandguard seemed simple enough, but since both screws provided are the same length and the handguard is slightly angled you'll notice they should have sent a longer screw. If your like me and try to make due with what they provided you"ll most likely strip the threads before your satisified with tightness.(first major annoyance). The second pis$off, came when I tried to fit the lower handguard to the firearm. You basically need a mallet to make it fit and you'll notice small shards of aluminum coming off the guard as you bang it into place. Now even after having it in place my pushpin didn't want to line up just right, so it took some banging to get the handguard back off the gun, then a touch of filing to the push pin grove.. All said and done its together, but I feel for the money, the fitment and design of these two products are horrid.

I have an upper handguard from NEA as well, that I am fairly happy with, the pin isn't as snug as the original handguard, but I havent lost it yet.

Also the Phoneix flash suppressor seems to work well, although its has more play than I'd like when installed. The pin locking grove should be another few mm's over and all would be perfect...

All in all, i'm left disappointed with these products, as the price is high and nothing has the greatest fit.

I didn't get an NEA fore grip but did get just about every other 858 part that NEA makes and all is well . Minor expected fitting .

I had an upper and lower hand guard setup for my old CZ858 that I was quite satisfied with. However, the first one I got was a somehow leaked out batch of dimensionally incorrect upper hand guards. Rather than replace it, I used a fine file to open up the rail enough for the recoil bar to fit. I later replaced this one when I added the new matched upper and lower hand guard set and that was excellent.

I have many NEA parts of which I am completely satisfied. Good tight fits.

I 2nd this quote , Pretty happy NEA took the time to put out a solid hand set for my VZ, Ive got the 58 in 5.56 ... cant wait for the aluminum magwell adapter that they are suposedly coming out with.

Is it possible that there are dimensional variations in the rifles?

Absolutely there are, especially in the gas block, rear sight base and front handguard ferrule areas. The recycled and NOS parts used on the 858s can be different variations with different dimensions.

I've had handguard which fit like a glove on one rifle, required shimming for excess clearance on the second, and on a third required grinding down the top of the gas block to get proper fit.

Do you have a CZ858 or a CSA VZ58?

Its a cz 858.. I think I'm going to need to get a new push pin that holds the lower handguard on since I mashed mine up pretty good and now its too short to fit all the way through.. Has anyone replaced these?

Yes. Get a roll pin of the right size and use that. The OEM pin won't stay in very well after it's been removed unless you flare the ends out again after re-installation.

I would also think the problem is with the rifle. The tolerances on a mass produced military firearm are likely pretty large, especially on a non-mechanical feature like the hand guard slot.
