Just thought I'd post a vid I made while testing the NEA Upper Handgard Rail. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe I've seen a video test of this product before. I apologize in advance for the sound, I will have to speak louder next time. Also, this is my first "talkie" Youtube vid, so I sped up a few parts where my inane blabbering was too much for even me to handle...:D

Rifle: 12 Inch Restricted VZ-58
Ammo: 7.62x39 Czech Surplus
Optic: Bushnell TRS-25 (3 MOA Dot)
Distance: 75 yards

Verdict: The product works. You will most likely need to do some custom fitting to your rifle. Be very careful and go slow and constantly check the fit if you need to file or sand it. I ruined one by being too harsh with a file. Also, it's a pain in the ass to remove and re-instal. It does allow co-witness with the TRS-25 and the Aimpoint Micro, which is unique to this design I believe.

Aluminum pin? All mine are steel.

Perhaps I'm wrong, I know the first ones were made of brass. It feels too light to be steel to me, I'll have to get a magnet out I guess. The finish is odd; parkerizing?

Edit: You're right, it's steel, my fridge magnet stuck right to it. I was thrown off by the finish I guess, I'll alter my original post.

I think it depends on what finish is used on the rifles. I can't imagine there is much variation in the rails.

Nope. Perfectly snug on my cz-858-tac2, some what loose on a 15" (same finish), too loose to keep zero on my 11.8". I use a side rail mount with that one, but before I got it I tried it all all three. Small variation equals big changes on an optic mount, all three can use the same piston cover, if no optic is required.
I found the same with a sks cover mount years ago. If you made it basically too tight, it held zero, within a inch or three (ie, as good as the rifle shoots with a red dot) between cleanings, but would not be interchangeable with another rifle and still be as tight.

I know the first ones were made of brass.

I've got one of those too, and it's stainless that had some sort of finish treatment that turned it gold-ish.

Funny how different each rifle can be. My NEA handguard is perfectly snug on one rifle, loosey goosey on another. Fit and number if you use several.

Even using the set-screws to take up the slack?

Hey guys, I've heard the set screws mentioned before. I just bought an upper and lower (new from a site sponsor) and it didn't come with any set screws, I see the locations on the rail for them, are the screws supposed to come with the rail?

My last set didn't, but I picked some up at an industrial supply place.

How odd, just as I finished installing my NEA upper on my CZ (around 6:30pm last night), I turn around and see that this is the newest post in the red rifles section. Coincidence I think not!

Anyways, I did notice mine was a little stiff to get on, but got on. Getting off just required some elbow grease without tools (not saying the OP is lazy or weak just saying that's how mine came off!).

Just waiting on a FastFire III to come in from Wolverine and I am ready for hunting season! :D

i put a barrell rail from zahal.org on my csa "shorty" ...took a tiny modification, but fits very solid between front sight and gas port housing (7.5" barrell) mounted a burris fastfire and i can co-witness my iron sights thru the fastfire very easily...seems to hold zero fine...looks good.....and works great

if you buy the double rail version you can mount the fastfire on top...and a short forward grip below (long grip gets in way of mag changes) :)

Ya I'll just stop at fanstenal or something on my lunch some day, thanks.

I found some of the set screws at home hardware they are 8x32 the shortest length they had was 3/16".

Just added a bushnell trs-25 and it co-witnesses I guess. You can line up irons in the bottom 1/3 of the optic. Haven't got to range yet. Love this platform with or without optic
