NEA - Shell Deflector

... A shell deflector is usually used for optics, scopes in particular. You don't cowitness magnified optics. But it appears that you could remove the deflector in about 3 seconds to get at your iron sights.

What's up with you just trolling around now s**tting on everything.. do you have stock in one of NEA's competitors?
WTF!!!
I like the design & can't wait to scap my crappy NcStar product that I baught from Marstar for something that looks as solid as this. Just think that Co-Witness is a bunch of bs that's all.
As much as you like to bash our Hand guards, we will put them up against any set out there. They are lighter, run just as cool and no matter what claims are made, allow the gun to shoot just as accurate, not to mention they are $50 cheaper then the next closest set.

As for Wolverine, they carry all of our product so unless they discontinue carrying our product its safe to assume they will also carry these.
The only time your handguards are an issue with me is when people talk about this Co-Witness "hype" that I personaly think is BS. Not once have I ever bash this product. Although I do own many NEA product's for a couple of different rifle platforms & are quite happy with them. As a matter of fact I own multiple other Canadain company's acessories and "complain" only about the ones that fail & praise the ones that don't.
As for Wolverine inquiry I was asking because last time I had to bug M14Doctor for that cool mag release that you guy's made for the M14 to get 1 slapped on my rifle but when I was on Wolverines website I could not find it listed there. So stop being so insecure.

Ah okay thanks Stevo, makes sense.

I use front and rear BUIS (on NEA hg and Cant mount) and also cut off the factory front sight...my factory rear was then useless so instead of removing it altogether cuz gasses would be spitting out of that area (right?) I just cut the notch off to make it a flush cover and painted over the white numbers and lines. Now it seems I need a new one, haha. Damn this rifle! I love her.

Gotcha.

Can you reinstall the adjustment slider? It looks like that piece is what the base of the deflector rests against. I'm not sure if it will hold well enough, but you could try it before buying a new sight leaf.

Don't even break a sweat over it. The big boys in cz/vz accessory game are getting a little edgy because of the new player on the block "B.C. Tactical".
I think what I might do is join the game to. I will get a $12.95 NcStar deflector ,make it look heavier and more robust and retail it for $69.95

FWIW, I designed this new deflector for my own personal use because the NCstar one was cheap and unreliable. I personally never got more than a couple mags worth of shooting before I had a jam or some other problem with it coming loose, etc.

NEA approached me about using the design because it had been seen by a bunch of folks and had a reputation for being reliable. I don't work for NEA, but I was happy to let them produce a product that will solve problems for a lot of VZ58 owners.

I think when a few people get these in-hand their performance and value will rapidly speak for itself, either pro or con.

Oh, and PS, there is a vast difference in the way the NCStar deflector attaches and is retained and how this new one works. I would ask the naysayers to reserve judgement until AFTER NEA releases their product.

Don't get me wrong, I am not a naysayer because it has not been released yet, time will tell. I have to agree with you NcStar deflectors are basicly junk the way you get them, but with only a small amount of fabrication to the NcStar deflector they can be made to work flawless and look good on both cz/vz and SKS.

Obviously you don't use your guns in combat, so what type of competition are you doing? That might explain why you can't see the advantages of cowitness.

Quite the opposite, Competition is good.. especially if it is with quality made parts. And even more so when they're Canadian/US made. Competition drives innovation and interest in the products that we all sell. The more rifles in Canada the better for all.

My issue is with trolls and not with competition. ;)

Any plans to make a deflector for left hand bolt carriers? Looks very nice.

I think these NEA deflectors "should" work with our Lefty carriers because we install our handles on the horizontal and not at the factory angle, so they should clear. Should be a pile more in stock in the new year.

As for the deflector itself, I'd likely run one of these on my regular shooter even though I don't run rearward optics just to keep brass heading in a predictable direction.

I never tried deflector that attach to rear sight but the idea is good because whatever optic you use, the deflector can be intalled in sec. However, on my cz i put a POSP scope and i dont plan to change the optic, that's why i bought the deflector that attach directly on the scope mount so the sight are usable anytime and when i remove the scope, the deflector follow so for me was a better option. But the NEA deflector look very good and solid so i'm glad when we can have more canadian made accessories of quality, congrat!:)

For those who may be interested in the ejection angle and clearance, here is a pic from the prototype construction that should help. Note this was before we added the rolled edge and had the deflector coated with finish.

Note that this is the closest you can physically mount a POSP. It is mounted as low as possible using the dragunov mount (lower than the AK mount) and the mount is thinned to minimum thickness and TIG welded directly to the receiver. The deflector still fits with ample clearance. As mentioned, 1000 test rounds so far with not a single failure to eject and not a single jam across several rifles.

This is the POSP mount attachment prior to the rifle being blasted and nitro-carburized. Hard to get a POSP closer to the bore axis than this.

Now imagine what you can do with the NEA cantilever mount and higher-end longer length optics like Nightforce, Leupold Tactical, Elcan Spectre or Vortex ;)

...or something like the Beryl style mount that Neit did long ago.... :)
Dave filled me in that it requires modding to the extractor post plus angling of the underside to make it feed reliably. I figured that out when I started to make my own & he gave me the heads up. I got this far untill I heard that another Canadian firearms maker was plaining on making these availbe to the public in the new year.

But still I think that this shell deflector and the POSP scope is going to be my non-restricted combo, as I have all but given up on making stuff for my rifle then some company a little while latter making it far better and i don't have to deal with all the headache's.

I figured the angling of the rail was a given. Was unaware of the extractor modding.

Until a drop-in beryl style mount comes in, I'll be running my DMS-1 on the regular cantilever mount with a riser to get the eye relief I need.

Until the deflectors are in.... I gotta stick with my rear mounted red dot in the ####ty B-Square ring I have.

.. changing the extraction path is no longer required. ;) There may be something out for 2011. Really, it's hard to beat the cantilever mount for versatility though. Easy on, easy off.
