Any one else have trouble with the piston cover from NEA for there 858's?
the bottom hand guard fit great but the top would not go on at all...........thought WTF... so I tried to dremil each side and it looked like I would have to take a lot off so I tried too bend the sides a bit each side where the pin goes then dremil some more went for one more bend and SNAP one side broke off.:slap: Didnt break where I was dermiling either. Had to order another one from Wolverine , I hope that one was just out of spec and this one fits. to bad it cost me $90 to find out.

Serioulsly? f:P:

How did it not fit? Would the ears not fit around the rear sight base? Was it real hard to push down far enough to line up the pin hole?

858's can vary a lot in external dimensions. The NEA parts are all the same. You really should have asked first and Dremeled/vise gripped second.

yeah thats exactly where it wouldnt fit. So say the new one doesnt fit also. What would you do?

Which place, around the rear sight? (I added a second question to my post) The paint can be quite thick, I've just tapped mine into place with rubber mallet.

If it was hard to push down far enough to line up the holes you probably have one of the tall gas blocks which block the downward rotation of the the rail.

yes, both sides of the rear sight. I couldnt push it on by hand and thought usiong a mallet but then thought I would never get it back off.

Mine fits snug also and need to tap it down.To get it off i just use a flat screw driver a pry it a bit.

PM me your contact info. Sounds like the gas block is out of spec.
We shipped 1000+ sets last year, 500 of them were made in one run.

This is the first time i have heard of this happening. Its simple to figure out, you will need to measure the width of your rear sight block and as best you can the legs on the hand guard.

You should also mention this to wolverine as they would have warrantied it for you and then dealt with us directly on your behalf. Give them a call.

The paint wears in fairly quickly.

You can use a brass punch from the bottom side to remove them when they're on really tight.

I really wouldnt expect any one to cover the cost of that part since I broke it. It was clearly my fault that it snaped, But I called Wolverine as you suggested and to my surprise , they had no questions about it and are alowing me to send the broken one in. Cant any thing but good things to say about NEA and Wolverine for helping me out with MY mess up. Thanks.
