After purchasing a Vortex cantilever scope mount from One Shot Tactical a few months back and seeing the improvement that having proper eye relief has on speed and comfort of shooting prone, I decided it was a keeper. My upper receiver however was a DPMS target upper, having a built in riser. Too tall. Next step was to swap to a standard flat top, and the NEA product looked like a good one to try. With some help from a fellow member on this board, we swapped my old barrel onto the new receiver. I think it looks pretty good, and more importantly, its in a position that I can shoot prone with proper eye relief and comfort.

The rifle is nothing fancy, cobbled together from many different sources, but it shoots decently (10 shot group goes into an inch at 100 yards). After that, its a matter of improving the setup so that I can make the most of it. Looking forward to hitting the range.

Might add a larger charging handle to give a better grip for when it gets tight.

The lower is an old Colt SP-1. Big hole pivot. I'm using one of those adapters to fit it to uppers. Barrel might be a krieger, based on the armalite numbers on the gas block, or it might just be an armalite gas block that came off their krieger barrel setup and someone stuck it on this barrel. Quite the mongrel. I measured the twist as 1:8. When I did a search on the net for the armalite numbers on the gas block, it came up as a krieger barrel for armalite that was supposed to be 1:7.7 twist. So that might be what it is.

I installed a RRA service match trigger. Good enough for my tastes.

Got out to the range tonight. It shoots well. I like the positioning of it for prone shooting. My bipod shooting skills need some work though. I can't seem to get the swing of having a consistent preload on the bipod. It shoots best when I don't have any.????
