As the pilot said "Everyone should fly a Spitfire at least once." Unfortunately with many moves, my Log Book went missing, but there was one entry in it that said "Spitfire Mk.V ---45 minutes ----65 gal. gas."
The blue colour scheme was designed to blend in with the sky at high altitudes. The guns were removed to add more speed, better turning and manoueverability, and getting higher than the German fighters. A good ground crew would WAX the whole aircraft to reduce drag around the rivets and joints so that the aircraft could fly a few miles per hour faster still.
This is a great documentary film. It is too bad that we have lost a lot of History and personal accounts from these Veterans.
