Neck reaming ?

I have been loading for a good number of years but possibly due to my own ignorance , I beleive that I have just opened an entirely new set of procedures as far as case prep goes . I was getting set up to do some load work for my .300 WBY with some new unfired Hornady brass that I bought from a fellow nut here on the site , when I noticed that the case necks were visibly thicker on some than others . This may be trivial or more of a question directed to B/R shooters but how much variance in neck thickness is acceptable for a hunting rifle round ? The necks on these measure between 9 and 14 thou. should I invest in a neck turner or is that just standard deviation for factory brass ? Thanks in advance, Barclay!
 
You normally only turn case necks when the chamber dimensions require it(tight chamber), you could get a neck reamer and use after neck sizing, however I don't think you will notice in a hunting rifle.
 
That much difference sure indicates poor quality control by the manufacturer.It will likely not cause any issues,but you might want to check the neck OD of a case fired in your rifle,and compare it to the neck OD of a loaded round with a thick necked case to ensure that you have some clearance.If the fit is too tight,you may have pressure issues with the thick necked cases.
 
5 thousandths variation in neck thickness is pure crap. Don't waste time trying to improve crap. Get some good brass.
I don't know that it applies here, but an old trick is to buy larger quantities of brass, sort them and sell all the duds at gun-shows. You can get crap Lapua that way.
