This may seem surprising for those that are aware of my love of 303/25 but today was the first time I've tried to form a case.
Up until now I've used old factory cases(yes, you heard right!) and cases custom ammo makers had formed.
But a guy I met on an Australian hunting forum sent me a 303/25 FL sizing vice die for free and so I lubed up a 303 case and headed for the big vice in the workshop.
It was a seamless operation and seemed to come out well.
But when I pulled it out there were a row of little dimples all around the case where the neck meets the shoulder.
There was a decent amount of oil in the die to begin with and the extra oil may've been the reason it formed this dimples.
Is this correct?
Is the case now junk or is it safe and will these come out when it's fireformed?
Any other tips?

sure sounds like oil dents to me. I'd like a pic, but from your description, have at it, the dents will go away on firing. Oil dents are typically at the shoulder, smooth edges, and not realy large. Back off on the oil and see if they go away.
Oh, and as you are going from large to small, check your case length, it very likely needs trimming, perhaps quite a bit.

Johnny's got it right on the money, friend.

I would just use a little less lube nxet time, unless there are a lot of dents, thenm I would take the die apart and clean it well with a dry patch amd a brass jag.
Put 'er back togehter and stwrt over.
But l;ike he said, watch the trim length!

Yeah, I have to trim back to 2.182".
BTW, the die is one-piece.
Basically a tube with a small hole in one end(for a rod to go down to knock out the sized case), a cartridge sized hole in the other and it's machined out to the correct dimensions.
Much easier to wind up a vice than use the press.

Nope, no oil holes. :|
So long as the cases are o.k. then I don't care.
One fireform and they look slick as snot on a doorknob.

Try running the case into the die until you feel the case shoulder cotact the die, back out the case and wipe the lube off the shoulder and then complete sizing.
