sorry typed too fast!

They're good guns for what they were made to do, but they are not very versatile. If you've already got a 270, I'd suggest something like a .338 win mag or .375 H&H and you'd pretty much be set.

Hi

I'm guessing that you are after knock down at reasonable range rather than going for longer range. Getting better long range performance than your 270 is possible, but it's generally not anything people can use.

Other than the 375 H&H most of the candidates start with a 4 and end in the word magnum. I'd head over to your local gun shop and see what they have. CZ makes a safari bolt action in 458 win, 416 rigby, and 458 lott. It's a fine rifle chambered in any of them. They all are more than adequate for anything you will find in North America outside a zoo ...

If you are going to buy a great bush gun for moose, bear, elk or buffalo, get the Marlin model 1895 XLR. SS with laminated stock looks great, carries well, and shoots great groups.
