Greetings i am soon buying my first shotgun
looking at a shotgun combo maverick 88 28inch vented and 18.5 barrels
so i can do the range and try out skeet /trap next summer
however all the ammo choices is confusing me a bit
so what i want to know what load is good for clay shooting
and what would i be wanting for practice shooting targets at the range.
Also the combo is hard to find but the 18.5 everyone has so any ideas where i can get barrels on their own i have read the 500 barrels are compatible as well.
Thanks in advance

A pump action works well for trap, but it is a poor choice to learn to shoot skeet. As to ammunition, you can purchase low priced target loads like Top Gun, or Gun Club by the flat for around $60 or even less. #8 shot works well for both trap and skeet.

Most places won't let you use anything bigger than 7.5. Anything from 7.5 to 9 will work fine for trap and skeet.

IMO spend the extra money and get a 500. That way it comes with a full set of chokes. Once you get a 88 and want more than the modified choke it comes with, you have to buy more at 20 bucks a pop and it works out to a little under 30 bucks cheaper than the 500 would be. And with the 500 you get a better finished shotgun and better safety position
