I'm just getting set up to reload for .223, and the projectiles I have are Berger VLD 90 and 80, and Amax 80. I looked through my Lyman reloading manual, and found nothing for those projectiles.

Where might I look? Are there some other reloading books I should get as well?

Thanks,

Rob

For Berger data e-mail Walt Berger on the Berger website and he will e-mail back in a couple of days. Let him know caliber and twist and the bullets you want to use and powder if you have some in mind, he's a good guy.

Rob, I am sure I mentioned this before. The bullets heavier then 75gr WILL NOT stabilize in the Stevens or Savage 9 twist barrel. They will in your upcoming barrel.

75gr Amax or Berger are the best options and there is load data available. Varget would be the right powder. Benchmark will also work.

A starting load with a similar weight bullet - say 77gr MK, can be substituted. Just work up in small increments and look for pressure signs.

I think I do recall you saying something to that effect, now that you mention it. So for "in the meantime reloading" I should go with something more mainstream, projectile-wise? At this point, it's more a question of just learning to use the press, and getting some trigger time with the Stevens.

That way, when the new barrel arrives, I'll be able to appreciate the difference.
