Need a Ball Bearing Detent

Either mine came out or it wasn't there to begin with when the mag tube extension was removed from my 870 Express.

So my new mag cap doesn't stay put.

Anywhere local I can go to get one in the west GTA area? Local shops do not have this.

The detent is 1/8" in diameter, a local hardware store may carry. If the detent is missing, the spring is probably missing as well.

Some barrels were shipped with the hole drilled but unused as the change was made to the "ratchet" style. There are "old style" and "new style" magazine caps. "New style" mag caps require the new style mag spring retainer as well. "Old style" mag caps can use the new style mag spring retainer but still require the ball bearing detent.

The detent you need is the same as the Mossberg 500 Safety Click Ball and Browning A5 Safety Ball, which are probably both easier to come by.

I didn't think the express had the detent. I believe you can get them at Brownells though.

Express has end plug on spring that has key way to stop it from rotating in tube & the head of it has notches that click in on the inside of the cap . If the gun had a mag tube extension then someone would have removed the raised nub inside the tube that stopped the plug from turning so shells could get past it . So now the original plug & cap will not work . If your barrel has the hole for the spring & ball you could install them & stake the hole so it won't come out & you will have to get an old style wingmaster cap with the indentations to contact the ball.

You could also try using an o-ring as a quick and affordable fix. I use o-rings on mine when I get bored of the extensions and haven't had any problems.

I actually dont recall there being a ball or spring and the extension has only ever been off on two occasions, and then replaced, then this time when I removed it all together and put an Uncle Mikes end cap.
