Need a biathlon rifle on a budget?

Hi,

I assume you are looking at getting a precision rifle for biathlon, but need a fortner action .22 at a better price than the currently available $2000-$4500 from Canadian dealers. If you are like me there are a few used that come up for sale but they are few and far between. I thus far have missed opportunities to obtain one.

Looking at an alternative means I looked to build my own; like a savage mark II with target sites and barrel, with either a modified stock or some hybrid. This is tricky given you want to meet regulations for IBU, it's not fool proof. Secondary stocks can be expensive.

I did come across the below rifle, which is not available in Canada, but would be an ideal candidate to compete given the fortner like action. Perhaps if demand was high enough, American tactical's Canadian counterpart could be convinced to bring them in. It would be a huge opportunity to fill a niche market and get a biathlon package together, with harness, more ideal stock that holds five mags, and the additional mags, for (5) total.

At $270USD, and some modifications it would be an ideal training candidate.

That's nice. But I don't see the front barrel dovetail for mounting a regular post or ring style front sight. Or is that what you meant about ".... and some modifications...."?

But yeah, at that sort of price range, and even if it were that price in US dollars so ended up around $400 I'd be tempted.

I believe prior to Savage buying them, Lakefield made a biathlon gun, called the Model 90B. From the photos it looks pretty basic, and is bolt action, not pull action. Perhaps there are still some on the used market.

what about a Primary Weapons 10/22 bolt action thingy they make?

Summit T3 action.

i know you can get those in Canada.
chuck it on with a TacSol light barrel and you should be good, no?
