Well, I've finally bought a rifle in 6.5x55 and need some help picking optics for the damn thing. I've narrowed it down to two different models but I have no idea which I should go for. They both sound like great scopes and the price difference is minimal.

I'm talking specifically about:

and

What else is out there for scopes with target turrets, mildot reticle, variable mag., etc?

do a search, there was a few threads about the falcon scopes...
I put my name in for one that is supposed to show up in april so unfortunately I can't say much about them from experience. I havent read anything bad about them yet, seems like they are a good scope for the money.

I have Falcon MP20 4-14x44 Merlin

What a scope I love it, the turrets are great and very precise

You should just decide which is better based not only on objective and zoom but also the Fron Focal point, as a reticle will get tiny at 4x and huge at 14x, so if you needto range the target quick get FFP if not get the 18x zoom for a bit more comfortable shooting out to 500-1000 yards :)

personally I'd get 18x one, as that's the one I'm looking for one of those just waiting a bit for the "T" series from Falcon :sniper:

Personally I'd go with the 4-14x front focal plane. You can range with the mil dots at any magnification. I'd buy that scope in a second if they offered it with their NP-20 reticle. With the 4.5-18x you can only use the mil dots to range at a set, default, magnification, may be 10x, 18x or whatever they made it at.

Out to 1000, so why do you need 18x? The military uses 3-12x S&B on the Timberwolf and they definitely shoot past 1000m. Granted more magnification is always welcome.

So, what rifle did you get in 6.5x55?

Falcons are great at the price but the glass on a S&B kicks the Falcon in the nuts.

This makes a huge difference and the Falcon needs the extra magnification to see 'as well as' the S&B.

Good point. Something I hadn't really given a lot of thought to. Realize that the quality of the glass is extremely different between the two.

for those of us that cant afford the S&B the falcon is an excellent budget scope i currently have the 4-14FFP sitting on my .300 Tacticool rifle, i have only managed to push her out to 500 yrds so far but i am hoping to find either a range close by or some decent property with a safe back stop that i can really stretch out on t osee how she holds up.
but for the $$ you will be hard pressed to find a comparable scope

While they are no S&B, Nightforce or US Optics they are still a quality scope for the price. I will most likely be putting one on the wifes .223 that she just stole from me. Will wait to see if she really takes to shooting again now that our youngest is a little older.

I'm also waiting for the 4-14x 44mm ffp model.

While not a super high end S&B, NF, Ziess etc, it looks like a decent scope. Reviews have been good.
The 4-14 44m Falcon Menace FFP model has better glass than the previous models. 94% light transmission vs 92% with the past ones. This puts the optics right up there with Burris at 95% and Bushnell 4200. That being said I like the optics better on my Burris than the 4200 I checked out.

Seems like a good scope at a good price. I'm just hoping I won't be disapointed.

Now metric or MOA? Haven't decided yet. Definately the MP20 reticle though.

The math is a bit easier :D and it corresponds with the milmarks on the reticle. But... I'll probably stay with MOA. We'll see.
