I am taking my hunters safety course next week and I want to be ready to hunt this season. Am I too late to get a deer tag? Do I need the licence to arrive in the mail before I can be sure I will be out hunting this year? Am I screwed because I left this all too late?

This may be a stupid question but I know how long it takes to get your PAL and I am not sure if I am allowed to hunt if I dont have the licence in the mail or whatever.

Anyone who may know the answer please do help.
I am in the process of booking a deer hunting trip at a lodge and I dont want it to get all ####ed up because of the timing of my licence, my buddy has me all worried that I am screwed.

Thanks Guys.

You are too late for the regular doe tag draw if your from Ontario. You might still be able to get a doe tag for some of the controled hunts. You can still by a deer license and just hunt bucks.

Hunting regulations are pretty much a provincial matter, so tag availability depends on where you live. You're allowed to posses a firearm without your PAL as long as you are within "arms length" of someone who has a valid PAL.

I can't speak for other provinces, but in Alberta a lot of tags can be purchased over the counter. The draw for limited entry licenses has already happened for the upcoming season, but the undersubscribed tags become available on Sept. 1.

I am in Toronto.

Once I pass my hunting safety course next week will I get my actual card in time to buy buck tag or does that even matter?

I have my PAL and that, got guns, justt need a hunting safety course now.
