Need a load for Hornady 350grfp and H4198 for deer and blackbear, in the Hornady Sixth Edition it shows a start load at 37.1 to a max of 48.4 what would be a good starting point? What would be a estimated FPS one would be looking for? Thanks :D

Bullet: Hornady 350 Grain Round Nose
Powder: 47.4 grains of IMR-4198
Primer: Winchester Large Rifle
Case: Winchester
Firearm: Ruger Number 3
Optics: Leupold 1x4
Velocity: 1924 FPS @ 15' from muzzle
Accuracy: 5-shots, 100-yards, <1.5"

second what Johan22 said work your way up. there are 3 levels of loads for the 45-70 - minimum for the old trapdoors out there (this is what factory is loaded at), medium (for the newer ) marlin 1895s and high for the ruger single shots and Siamese mausers. do an internet search under 45-70 loads especially the powder company sites there is gobs of info out there.

I second this. Be careful with 45/70 loads - always start at the low end.
