Need a Mauser screw. What are the threads?

I'm putting a 98 Turkish action into new wood, but the aftermarket floorplate is just a bit taller than the original (or my screw was filed down to be shorter). I need a rear action screw for the 98 Mauser, one as long as possible so I can file it down if it's too big.

Does anyone know if the threads are standard and if I can grab a bolt from Home Hardware?

Or does anyone have a longer bolt they'd sell?

The one I have now is 39mm long, and it is just barely too short.

I'm not a Mauser expert, but I am pretty certain that the threads are Metric. Take your old screw down to a place that specializes in supplying machine screws, and match it up to the correct metric thread. You haven't told us what the head style is, but I'm guessing it is flat head. You probably have a straight slot head, which may be kind of rare. You will probably be able to find one in Metric hex socket (Allan) drive. Maybe someone will chime in with a source for original screw replacements. I doubt if your hardware store will have anything other than hex head capscrews.

The thread is 1/4-22 - definitely not standard. Do you need the type with the cut-out in the head for locking screws?

Perhaps you could try a local gunsmith/gunstore. Brownells has them.

Brownell's has pretty well every screw and bolt ever used in a firearm - you can order off their web site. But they are 'gun parts' so even with air express it will still be two or three weeks wait.
