I've narrowed it down to a 22lr to put me back on the triggerhappy high. As I have afew already I just want cheap fun. Choices are
Mossberg tactical 22
Savage mark2 tr
Savage 64 tactical with threaded barrel (no clue what I'd put on the end of it tho)
Help me out
What would you choose
 
Mark II TR or Mark II TRR SR ....

I like the TR models with no rails

The mark 2 is where my money would go. I have one of the basic ones with the wood stock and the iron sights that I use most of my .22 shootin' and I love it. Accurate as hell and a well built rifle.
 
What I really really want though is a TR model in 22WMR ....:cool:

I dont see any on their website ..they make the TR model in 17HMR and 22LR only I guess :(

Savage 93 FV (22 mag) + Boyds "Tacticool" stock = pretty close to what you want.

- the bolt knob and flutes.
 
Marlin 795 all the way, cheap, cheerful, and damn right accurate/reliable. I saw it for $140 online at Le Baron. It doesn't have many after market upgrades, but is just an awesome gun.

you might try a cz scout ... small , light , accurate , add ons to tinker with , price isn't bad

eventually re-barrel with heavy target barrel

it's all the thrill of the chase

I'm not a fan of rails on a bolt gun meant for target shooting but I like the look of the TR mark 2. I think that's what I'm gonna go with as I've heard the mossberg feels cheap. Played with a ruger 22 ar style and hated the feel. So thanks guys I'm thinkin the savage will make me smile and I can paint a marbled web pattern on it to
 
For the Savage TR out of the 2 cal available it would be my last choice...I want a new accurate small cal rifle as well but I cant make up my mind between 22WMR and 17 HMR.
I know it will be a savage in one of those two calibres but that and which model to get is a difficult choice for me ...I really like the TR model but also like the BRJ and FV stainless models :runaway::runaway: Decisions Decisions...lol..might have to get a couple...lol

When i needed cheering up last fall i bought a CZ 452 varmint. I was cheerful until winter hit now waiting impatiently for spring. Good god it`s been a long winter and not giving up easily.
 
I have a Savage TR in 17 HMR and love it. Shoots itty bitty groups ( if the wind isn't kickin. Shot one group at 100, 3 cloverleafed and the other 2 just outside . All still well under a dime. Mine likes the Hornady 20 gn.
My buddy has a Savage thumbhole stainless and it will shoot just as well as mine. It's in 17 as well.

I'd go 22mag over 17 for rimfire but I have an old mossy64k that's just way to accurate to replace. And it just feels so nice. I looking for a cheap to shoot 22. It'll be number #10 for 22cal rifles for me. I think everyone needs to hit double digits when it comes to 22s. To bad they didn't make a sxs 22lr. I'd have to buy one
 
Man, this thread speaks to me. I just got an email from my hunting buddy...he loves the heavy artillery for varmints. Got to telling him about my desire to add a .22WMR to the collection, and I got back a small dose of "why the hell would you do that when you could just get a .223?"

It's a rimfire thing, not sure he'd understand. :)

Back to your thread~sounds like you're going for the TR and that would be my choice of what you picked there. Like someone else who posted in this thread, last fall...I picked-up a CZ452 in .17 HMR and yes...this winter has been dreadfully long. I've only put about 200 rounds down the pipe, I'm itching to get out and pay the groundhogs a visit. About 2 weeks from now as a matter of fact. :)

I think the .22 WMR will happen before any centerfire purchases though. Partly because I've always wanted one, but also because the .223 I have my eye on it about $800+ for the rifle alone. I can get set-up in the .22mag for about 1/2 that or less~including scope/rings. I can also shoot it closer to where I live.

Enjoy your purchase, but if you have a TR budget, have a look at a CZ before you buy. I had a TRR and the 452 in hand when I was making my .17 HMR decision. The CZ won.
