So what are the going rates on the PTRD and PTRS anti-tank rifles? I'm interested in purchasing a PTRD once i round up some cash, but out of curiosity what does a PTRS run for nowadays?

I saw that deactivated PTRD at the collectors source for $1,695 and worse case scenario, i could attempt reactivating it based on how well it was deactivated (with CFC approval of course).

However with university coming up in the fall, i'm afraid my time to spend on reactivating the gun would be minimal, so a fully functioning one would be optimal!

Also, what are the other AT rifles available up here in canada, and their approximate values?

If you don't feel comfortable with publicly announcing your "estimate", please do send me a PM. I just want to know about how much money i will have to scrounge up to buy one of these :).

The fact that ammo is non existant and shipping is so high limits their practical value. PTRS's are really expensive if I remember right, but PTRD's not nearly so. Also I think has to do with how many are available. Last one I heard of being shipped had to travel in a sono tube and just about couldn't be due to length restrictions. Once again though, that factor brings the usual value down. Seems there are more than a few out there and people buy them then realise they can't really shoot them or do anything with them, but want to charge an arm and a leg for it when someone is looking for them.

I would suspect that reactivating could be an issue just because of how high the pressures are. A catastrophic failure with a PTRS or D would be 100% catastrophic.

Unless you've got a LOT of money saved up I say finish your current project, get it fully functional, then put your spare money into ammo, because money will be tight at university no matter how you play your cards.

H Wally is right on the nose.

I spent far too many years in the poverty-stricken gilded halls of academe; I suspect H Wally has, too.

Keep your eyes open, though; you never know what might pop up out of nowhere.

My old Dad always said that one should consider carefully advice offered by someone who isn't trying to sell you something.

Just something to think on...

You two are probably right... I saw a PTRD on some 3 year old classified ad for $1800 , so i figured it seemed fairly priced. Never occurred to me that shipping might be next to impossible :(. My obsession for overly sized useless guns should probably wait until after my school. Thanks for the input guys

added: H Wally, waiting on the belt so i can test fire her :). Just sent the CFC another email update on my progress, i'll see what they want me to do next. Threw a picture up on that restoration thread sticky.

firemachine, i've got a couple .22's for plinking , looking for something a little exotic :). I'm more of a collector when it comes to milsurp, I just want to have them to stash away, who knows if you'll ever see them again in 5, 10, 20 years , etc!

I recently bought a PTRD for $1900 with a supply of ammo. Shipping, when all was said and done, ran me about $400 since it was too long for Canada Post and DHL wouldn't take it without a locking case. Since they dont make a gun case anywhere near that big, the guy shipping it for me ended up having to build one out of plywood.

Have you managed to fire it?

I figured around that , i saw a 3yr old ad for one for $1800 , so i guessed around that price.

Cantom: I read that someone on here was doing so or something, i don't see why not, it is only non-r ?

Hmmm - I'd be interested in the reactivation legalities as well. As far as I know you'd just be building a gun. It would be registered, the RCMP techs would be informed, strait forward. Other than my reservations in regards to how safely it could be done with a PTRD or S without some very specific knowledge, I don't think there would be much concern over it.
