But spending more for the scope than the gun seems illogical. Good or bad experiences welcomed. I'm a flatlander so something variable up 4 or 5 would really extend it's usefullness beyond deer season. Somewhere in the neighborhood of 300-400 is about right budgetwise. I'll be using an S & K no drill mount; the one that replaces the rear iron sight on an m-96.

I'm not Bushnell still offers it, but even if not you might still find one: a long eye relief Trophy 2-6x32 should be well under $400 new, probably under $300, and of course less for a used one.
 
I just put a NC star scout scope 2.75X on my .303 lee enfield and it work great. At least, it retain zero!! and for 115$ shipped (fabsports), it worth a try. When you have more cash, look at Burris or Leupold.
