I have a nice little Weaver Deluxe kit that I take with me to gun shows. It contains most of what I ever need. I added a pick set and a couple of ordinary dollar store toothbrushes.

My first world problem is that when I need the kit at home, it is at my shop. Then, when I need it at the shop, it is at home! I see they are at Cabela's in Regina for $110 + tax.

I guess I am just trying to talk myself into springing for another kit. :p

I looked at the Wheeler kit, but it doesn't have a hammer. I'll go with the Weaver. :)

You need to go to Crappy Tire or the like and buy a screw driver set etc. and quit paying a whole lot extra for the word 'gunsmithing'. Spend the $110 on a bench grinder.

Yeah right, the crappy tire bits are tapered and your just asking for trouble with those.
I am sure you could piece a second one together over time for less money that the $110.00 you mentioned.

another suggestion from the "wise"....

As FLHTCUI said, crappy tire (and almost all other....) screwdriver bits ARE NOT GUNSMITHING drivers. they are tapered and will rape your screw heads, if you're lucky. sure they will work on the occasional screw if it isn't tight, but if you look close at the screw after you tighten it, you will clearly see that the edges around the slot have deformed very slightly.

i think i've asked this before... but why do you continue to give "advice"? seriously... i don't follow you around, i don't try to find your posts, but it seems like in 95% (or more) of your "advice" posts, you're giving bad advice, sometimes bordering on (or flat out bushwacking right into) dangerous territory.

by the way, whatcha recommending that bench grinder for? Barrel crowning repairs? Trigger work? Ahhh... deburring trimmed cases no doubt!

You need a hollow ground screw driver set. One that has flat edges where it meets the screw. You can get such things from Canadian Tire, but the quality may be suspect. The average household screwdriver has a tapered blade that tends to climb the edges of the screw and results in damaged screws, or worse, slips and gouges.

Something like http://www.lymanproducts.com/lyman/tools/gunsmith-31-piece.php
or http://www.brownells.com/gunsmith-t...-nra-magna-tip-screwdriver-set-prod22300.aspx

Be sure the tip fits the screw precisely.
