I had a good look at one of these at a gun show recently,I have to say I was very disapointed with the finish. I had the real thing many yrs ago and it was a great rifle. How may rounds have you put through yours ?

Mabee a little over 2,000 rounds and counting....not one single jam, malfunction, stove-pipe, failure to fire, etc.

The only "odd" thing that ever happend was it spit out a three-shot bust once. Ha ha ha....but I wasn't complaining, to be honest with you I wish it happened more than once;)

Took the plunge

Thanks everyone for all your thoughts and advise. I have this morning paid for a CZ858, I should have early next month.

Now comes the tricky bit of explaining the cost to the old woman.

Make sure to clean the bolt assembly very well, because if you use corrosive ammo and the pin sticks, you can have a slamfire which, trust me, is something you don't want to happen unexpectedly.

Don't waste your money on cheap, junk guns. Buy a Springfield M1A and you'll never need another semi-auto centerfire rifle! :):):)

Springfields , especially the new ones, are over priced crap. I would never trade one of my 305's for one or more Sprinfields.

This is a case of not getting what you pay for, not even close.

I just picked up a M14s and found all USGI parts for it, for a total of about $1100, maybe less. What does a plain jain cast out of spec recivered Springfield go for these days.:p

Good idea. Don't waste your money on cheap junk guns. Waste it on expensive junk guns instead. ;)

The M305 only comes up short compared to the M1A when it comes to finish, stock, and sights. Buying a $400 M305 and correcting these problems is still cheaper than buying a $2000 M1A.

In terms of function or accuracy, there is NOTHING wrong with the M305, and most of the parts are actually of better quality than those found on the Springfield.

Don't believe me? There are a LOT of M305 owners on this board, and no complaints. Go read The M14 Firing Line and listen to all the #####ing about Springfield's quality control.

I read an awefull lot of trash-talk about the m305's bolt. Has anyone had experience with problems with this Norinco?

I'm interested in buying one.

The Parkerizing on the later M305's tends to be very good, even black all around. The wood stock's finish leaves a lot to be desired, but it can be easily stipped and refinished (actually a bit of a labour of love) with tung oil or restocked with a painted fibreglass stock.

BTH, I have at least 1,200 rounds through mine, and that's probably on the low side for a lot of M305 shooters here.
