Need a smith for STI

Hi guys.

I need a gunsmith for my STI Edge. The hammer was changed or something to make it a heavier trigger pull. It has an SVI trigger and after market extractor. I want to get the trigger to operate more like the CZ-75 IPSC Standard trigger I had before, which was under 2 lbs. I find the heavy trigger on this gun to be extremely annoying. I was told by the original owner that I should replace the hammer (or something like that) to get it back to where it should be. I have had someone look at it here who offered to work n the trigger, but they got doubles when trying to work it down in trigger pull weight by adjusting the spring alone. He told me to order some parts from brownell's but I would rather just send it in to someone who can do the whole thing and return a working and safe gun with a light trigger pull. I also want a slightly longer magazine release. Can anyone suggest someone to do this for me?

Although I am always very busy, this is a job that can be fit in (and I do lots of STI's. I am an STI dealer and an IPSC specialized pistolsmith:)

Now, to get the STI down to the 28 ounces of the CZ IPSC Standard - or below - very special sears and hammers are needed. I use the Dlask hammer and the Cylinder & Slide sear, recut them here to my specs and hone/polish the surfaces, and we do have 1.5 lb trigger pulls out there on STI's :)

Now for the cons: This is not a pivoting trigger setup like the CZ. I once did up a CZ with a 12oz trigger pull - to see if I could - and it worked great! AND was unshootable, I felt. No definite delineation between the prep and the actual letoff. With anything under 2 1/4 pounds in a 1911 style gun, you need to run a 12 or 13# recoil spring at the most - or the STI Recoil Master - to ease off on the battering as the slide comes forward. You will NOT be dropping the slide on an empty chamber - ever!

These STI's come with about a 3 - 3.5 lb trigger pull from the factory, and they intend that. Lawyers. I usually set up the ones I sell to 2# for Open guns, and 2.5# for Standard (with their heavier recoil springs). Anything lighter than that gets costly. A trigger job is $100, and that's on the stock components. Add the fancy (HARD) components and you add $120 to that.

Can you do it without the expensive parts? Some try - and it may work for a while. I have guns out there with well over 100,000 rounds on the original pieces so I do know that my stuff stands up...

I suspect someone may have diddled with this gun, so we have to assume we need to replace or remachine parts. Ballpark cost - 2 1/4 - 2.5 lb nice crisp pull - $125-$175. 24oz to 32 oz - probably $200 +

BTW, I do love those CZ triggers, too! I spent many years building and shooting CZ's, Tanfoglios etc. in the nineties :)
