I've been clicking around and I can't find any after market rubber butt pads that fit to the original wood stock. They gotta be out there. Anyone have an idea? I don't want those cheesy slip on ones. They look like crap. I am going to do a nice wood themed SKS project and I need a butt pad solution that will look nice and uniform to the stock. They make them for the Mosin Nagant why on Earth would they not exist for the SKS? Will this require woodworking? I am determined so any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

First question is, do you creep the stock? A lot of the issues with the SKS and length of pull, can be fixed by not creeping the stock & using a very square stance when firing one.

Cheers

Yeah I suppose I do but that's what is comfortable and comfort is what drives my demand for this solution. Thanks though.

There is, forum member Mobular sells Chicom sks rubber butt pads. 1" thick, comes with longer mounting screws. He sells them for 12-15 bucks iirc. Both my Russians wear them, they fit perfect and look correct because they are.

I found the archangel stock worked well for me (6'4"). I always thought Russian people were bigger, but then again, one side of my family came from the Ukraine.

It's flush fitting, unlike the slip on rubber boot looking pads.

It's got to be mentioned that this particular pad has no opening to access the cleaning kit in your stock. So, you have to keep the cleaning kit separate from your rifle if you want to use it.

Correct, I just keep the cleaning kit in my range box with my other tools etc. It's a small price to pay for an extension that doesn't look like a rubber boot lol, it might reduce recoil a bit but I've never thought it had much to begin with. That extra LOP is nice to have.

Well thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I haven't heard back from him yet so it could be a bit of a wait. He makes these himself I guess? Riversrest those are beauties. Especially the one on the bottom. That's very similar to what I'm going for next build only I'll be running just a ghost ring rear sight and maybe a black vented handgaurd but maybe not. Did you refinish that one yourself?

Not that I know of, they're chicom surplus as far as I can tell. They usually have some splash of shellac on them which comes off after a good soak in a jar of rubbing alcohol. The longer screws are identical in threading to the stock Russian ones the sks comes with, sure looks like Milsurp parts to me.
