I am thinki9ng about buying a BLR in 7-08 for general hunting purposes including deer and moose. The quesion is this caliber adequate for moose. If so what bullet selection,140gr or 150gr. I would like to use the Barnes TSX. Any favorite loads will be appreciated. Thanks Dabbler.

real good caliber i have one bought should be here any day!! I sold my 300 tumping thunder magnum for this, light recoil for what i wanted for a deer to moose caliber! Know need for the magnum shooting moose at 30 feet!!!a friend of mine also has one and have taken a black bear and a moose with his without any problems!!!

I'd use the 154 SST or a TSX or TTSX 140. The SD is plenty high that you don't need tree-swaying velocities and given the penetration of a TSX the 140 is plenty. The 7mm-08 120 gr TSX hammers big deer, but I never seem to get the bullet back. So far everything I've hit with a TSX has been a thru-and-thru.
7-08 is a fine deer round. It would not be my first or second choice for moose.

The wife an I each shoot 7-08 Rem. Both use a 1/2 grain off max load of Varget w/ federal match primer under a 139 gr Hornady Interbond.
My calf at 7 yards and my wifes cow at 167 yards...not monsters but Moose none the less. Yes Cow and calf by choice and draw tag.
It along with many other calibres will do the job on almost anything in North America with proper bullet choice and placement.
There is no 1st choice or last choice when it comes to calibre, they are all just individual choices for individual reasons.

my wife going to use her 7/08 for moose and elk next year.we going to use the new gmx bullets from hornady and cant see any problems with them.true enuff i might be there to help her out if she needs it but i highly doubt it.probally use the 139 grain bullet.then will use same bullet in 7wsm and 280 too.

I just picked up a 7mm-08 in a Remmy 700 CDL Boone and Crocket edition. Can't wait to hunt with it this fall. So far it is shooting 120 grain coyote killers into well under an inch, and I will be trying some 140 Partitions soon too.
Nice moose Sask Hunter! When are you going to trade that X-Force (nice bow by the way!) for a Saskatchewan made APA?

As for compound bows...as soon as APA builds a bow as reliable as my X-force I may consider it. I did just buy a Bowtech Commander for 3d and spot shooting...just saving my x-force for hunting...
