Need advice for my last handgun purchase

I've been a PAL holder for a long time but never got around to getting any restricted weapons. With the recent announcement I've been scooping up a few "essentials" and I'd like to add a final one to my collection. Admittedly my collection isn't too exciting with it being mostly entry level 9mm's but I'm wondering what the more experienced shooters here think I should go with to diversify what I have so far

Current guns : P320 full size black, Glock 17, Cp-07

What I'm considering: M&P 40, 1911, G48, M&P 45

Is the experience of shooting .40 and .45 worth getting at least one of those?

Any input is appreciated.

Thanks

Just my 2 cents but if you dont have a handgun in 22lr, I'd suggest getting one. Cheap ammo and they are alot of fun at the range. I have a couple and usually take one with me on range day and "warm up" with it before moving onto 9mm or larger calibers.

I think everyone should have a .45, the M&P in .45 is a great pistol and you just can’t go wrong with a 1911 either. Personally I would pass on the .40, honestly I would buy a .22 pistol before I would invest in a .40, but that’s a choice you will have to make.

You’ve already got a lot of plastic. Get the 1911.

If you’ve got the coin ($2600) Ellwood Epps has some very nice DanWesson’s. If you’re looking for a more budget friendly piece ($800) then Armseast has a selection of Tisas.

Are you missing anything by not shooting .40 or .45? I’d argue not. Fun factor doesn’t really change. To that end I’d second the idea of getting a .22. Sometimes blasting away with my little Ruger puts a bigger smile on my face than anything else in my safe.

New shooter myself. Based on ammo prices / ability to teach new shooters, I'd recommend a .22 pistol as well.

My in-the-pipeline are following (and how I potentially (and naively) see them in their roles):

- CZ Shadow 2 (ideally for participating in IPSC production)
- Glock 17 MOS (maybe for IPSC optics division, if any)
- Taurus 1911 .45 (wanted a 1911, don't think there's much range potential there)
- Ruger 22/45 (.22 to add to the collection)
- Glock 48 (wanted a single stack 9mm, maybe to customize a bit down the road)

Part of me is considering one of the following, assuming I can find 'em (though I think I'm reasonably happy with my choices so far)

- Walther PDP (alternative addition to the Glock 17, perhaps also work for IPSC production)
- Beretta 92x RDO (mostly like the look and legacy of the 92FS/M9)
- Taurus TX22 (a more "action"- centric .22 - though I've been telling myself that I might be able to fill that role with a .22 conversion kit for the Shadow 2 or the Glock 17)
- Sig P320 (I've been reading about the modularity aspect and how useful that is - just can't bring myself to really like it, at least on paper)
- CZ Tactical Sport 2 (potential single-action option for competition, but rather $$$)

Any thoughts?

45acp is a pretty accurate cartridge, I have a couple here that are really impressive. One is an STI 1911, the other is a S&W 645.
40S&W is ok, it's snappy, have a couple but could live without them.
22lr is a must, if you don't have one that's the best one to add.

1911. Nothing like a steel, single action, semi-auto pistol. Or a CZ Tactical Sport if you have the money. Gorgeous trigger pull, accurate as hell, reliable as the sun coming up.

I've got several plastic guns and they are OK but if I could only have one it would be a 1911 or CZ TS.

....and a 22. Maybe a nice revolver like a S&W 617.

If I were you, and your budget permits, I'd get a 22LR Norinco TT Olympia from Marstar at $199. That leaves you money for a 1911 in .45 ACP. (people have already made a few suggestions). Lastly, if you have some left over money I'd get a revolver (if you can find one because they're cool).

Definitely a .22LR to round out your collection for cheap and easy target practice. P&D Enterprises has a S&W SW22 Victory for a good price. If you can afford it, a metal pistol such as a 1911 or a CZ Shadow for the trigger, or a Baretta for the ###y. CSC has an Alpha Foxtrot optics ready 1911 incoming; there's still a few CZ Shadows out there. I think I could live without the .45ACP and just focus on 9 mm and .22lr if funds are limited.

At this point in time buy what you can. Get yourself a 22 plus whatever else is available. If you see something that you are interested in don't think just buy it or someone else will. Unfortunately time and supply is not on your side. Best of luck.

Agreed with many above, if you want to shoot and/or get better as a pistol shooter, definitely choose something in 22LR.

If it's just going to sit in your safe then get something small so there's more room in there for guns that you use.

That’s super cool - I wonder if it will work in my Gen 4 Glock 31? As I understand the 22 and 31 are the same frame with different barrels.

Get a 22LR pistol. Cheap to shoot and you don't have to count every shot.
45ACP is fine if you want bigger holes in your target but no real advantage otherwise.

I made sure I had at least one of each

- Polymer striker fired
- Steel/Alloy Single/Double action pistol
- Steel Single action pistol
- Double action revolver
- Single action revolver
- Cap & Ball Revolver

That way I'm covered for any mood I am in in the future.

If you want one last pistol I'd go with an all steel or steel/alloy gun, either 1911, Beretta 92/M9, Sig 226, Bersa 380 etc...

Check our Arms East, they have a good selection of Beretta's and Tisas 1911's that are not too pricey.

According to the Advantage Arms website you need the AA17/22 Gen4 specific kit and it will work on your G31 Gen4

Awesome - thanks. That G31 looks like a versatile platform with some lone wolf barrels for 9mm (+mags) and .40 and now a .22lr kit.

I guess a G22 Gen 4 would also work, but I imagine the .357sig barrel is harder to find
