I have a remington VTR in 223, and switched from a bushnell elite 4200 2.5-10 to a 4.5-15x 40 leupold for a weight savings of about 4 ounces. I have to say the weight difference is noticeable and I like it. I have done some research and I see that the talley light weight rings with the integral bases (2 pcs, front and rear though) are about 2 ounces compared with 5 ounces for my leupold dual dovetail 2 pc mount. I like the sturdiness of these mounts. What I would like to know is:
1) do you think that it is worth while switching for a savings of 3 ozs?
2) since I am using the low rings and still have about .100" below the scope to the barrel, can anyone reccomend which height of the talleys would be closest to what I have? I do not want to be any higher than I am now. I am using alumina caps so they don't require any extra clearance.
Thanks!
