Hi everyone, I need a scope for my new 6.5 Cr. Will use her mostly for coyote hunting, a few days of deer in the fall, and a bit of range work experimenting with different ammo, might hand load in the future. Most shots will be below 300yds, occasionally out to 500yds.

I have narrowed it down to three Vortex options, all priced the same, within my price range (in no particular order, looking for pros/cons to help my decision):
a) Viper PST Gen ii 5-25x50 (30mm tube, RZR zero stop)
b) Strike Eagle 5-25x56 (34mm tube, Rev zero stop)
c) Strike Eagle 3-18x44 (34mm tube, Rev zero stop)

Thank you in advance!

Not sure about the configuration of your rifle, but something like a 4.5-14x Leupold VX3 in a more hunting oriented scope, or a Mark 3 6-18x Leupold, Nightforce NXS 3.5-15x, or a Mark 5 3.6-18x Leupold in a tactical scope, depending on your budget.

If you can get them all for the same price (the PST Gen 2 has a significantly higher msrp than any of the Strike Eagles) I'd definitely go with the PST gen 2 5-25. Generally speaking, everything (glass, internals, etc) about a PST is higher end when compared to a Strike Eagle. Considering that you don't plan on shooting past 500 and might carry it around a bit for hunting, you could also look at the PST gen 2 3-15x as it's a few oz lighter than all of them, will have better glass than the Strike Eagles and 15x is more than enough for 500 (and will work fine for range work as well).

I would go as light as possible - my coyote scope is a Kaspa Weaver 2-7x32
From the web:

The KASPA 2-7x32 Dual-X Scope from Weaver is a lightweight affordable riflescope designed for hunting and target shooting. Each scope in the KASPA series features one-piece tube construction, fully multi-coated optics, nitrogen-purged housing, and precise 1/4" MOA adjustments.

This KASPA 2-7x32 scope is configured with a zoomable field of view for enhanced situational awareness, 80" MOA adjustment range, and a dual-x reticle for dependable accurate hunting and tactical aiming. Multi-coated lenses ensure bright and clear images with high contrast throughout the entire range of magnification.

I like all those options, but I have an early strike eagle 4-24 so biased.

For up to 300 yards I think I'd go more in the 3-18 range. The nightforce mentioned above also is attractive.

when I started out hunting coyotes deer and bears years ago I used a basic 3 to 9 by 40 scope.

From your list: NONE.
Vortex: Awesome warranty: and I used it.
I want my scope seating on my rifle, not at the post office.

I don't want to use a warranty at all.
Vortex Crossfire and diamond back are quickly being considered crap.
I'm sticking with Leupold.
I'm not gambling on a crap scope when deer season is so short

The crossfire is their low end scope and has had some problems. I have the Diamondback tactical 3-9x40 and the 6-24x50. Especially the 3-9 is excellent value for the money when it is on sale. Generous eye relief and clear glass. I compared it to my Leupold and also let others look throw both of them. No comparison. Leupold is just a name, they overprice their scopes and live from past reputation. There is zero reason why my Vortex should crap out during a hunt, reviews on opticsplanet and other US sites confirm it.

If the Vortex Viper PST is in your price range, then personally I'd look at a Swaro Z5.
Way lighter, better glass, can snag a 3.5-18x44 with a ballistic turret for close to the price of that PST.
Just my 2 cents.

I just got my Zeiss V4 4-16x 44. I find it a lot clearer than the VX 5 3-15x44 that I used to have.

Not sure about the Swarovski, I wanted a 30 mm tube and I think the Swarovski is 1 inch

3-9x40 trijicon accupoint green dot duplex, or mil-dot duplex, Kenton speed dial turret to match load for dial up and or mil dot first 3 dots will cover you to about 600 no prob, you're scope choices are terrible for hunting, way over scoped, you want fast intuitive light with unreal glass, i tried it all and coyotes a priority for most of my rigs and this is the ultimate set up for a pure hunters rig, your scopes be great for gophers and steel work, a hinderance in the field for hunting
