I just bought a Savage Axis LH .308Win rifle. I am thinking about getting a Bushnell 3200 Elite 3x9x40 type of scope for the gun. I have this scope on my 270 Weatherby and it seems OK. I also have a Bushnell Scope Chief 3x9x40 on another rifle. This gun is just a deer hunting rifle, range less than 300 yards.

I don't know a lot about scopes but don't want a bottom of the line scope. I don't trust them. I don't think I want to buy a used scope either.

Looking for feedback on a good scope in the $300-400 range. Is it worth it to go state side for a scope? I'm thinking the 3x9x40 size range is OK for normal use. I have good binoculars.

I like the redfield scopes, I think they're a lot of scope for the price. Had the 3-9 on my old elk rifle and then put in on wife's 7-08. Recently splurged and bought a leupold vx1 with the LR reticle for my new to me elk rifle. Really like the reticle, it's bang on and the scope seems nice. I just have a bushnell banner on my 30-06 and I hunt with that more than anything though.

While I've never had trouble with a bushnell scope I went with the redfield/leupold as they're lifetime warranty and at least mostly made in Oregon. (couldn't find a Cdn made scope, figure US is next best).

Nothing wrong with the Elite. I have three of them. If you don't want to go too deep, take a look at the nikon pro staff. Bought one to try on a muzzle loader and really solid for the money spent.I have Leupold vx II's that I am really pleased with as well. Lastly,I have a Burris full field 2 on a .270 for the past 10 years and very pleased.

I've just had a different idea. What if I took the Elite 3200 off the Weatherby Mark V Deluxe 270 Weatherby Mag and put that scope on my new rifle and bought a better scope for the 270? The 270 is a better long range rifle than the .308Win will ever be. Another question, thinking of buying a rifle bore sighter, what should I buy? Want one that will do from .22 to .45ACP. I like the one from England on e-bay but shipping is a #####.

You could splurge a little and step up to something like a 3.5-10x Leupold for the Weatherby without feeling guilty.

As for the bore sighter, I'd buy a package of targets and a range membership. Bore sighting can be done as easily as putting the rifle in a rest and aiming it out the window at a stop sign and then adjusting the dials until the crosshairs and the image through the bore look to be in the same general place. It's just a ballpark thing.

I have the 2.5-10 Bushnell Elites 4200's on all my rifles, even the .22's. They give a wider field of view than the Leupolds and very comparable in clearity. They take a lot of abuse and still stay on target. If there was a better scope that could do all that and was less expensive, I'd have them. Good luck in your quest.

Please dont buy one of those. Absolute junk. Search for them on here and you'll find very poor reviews.

Nothing wrong with a 3200 Bushnell. In your price range I'd go with that or the Redfield revenge for a 308.

I have not used the Revenge, but the Revolution is a great scope for the money. Redfield or Leupold would be my choice depending on your budget as I prefer the smaller profile. The Bushnells have a large eyepiece that I just don't like the look of.

+1 on the Nikon review above. Good glass for the money, but also large eyepiece like the bushys.

PS I currently have a 2-7 Revolution and a 2.5-10 Monarch for sale!

For strictly hunting , at the ranges the 308 Win is good for,you will be well served with a 6x36 Leupold with LR dots or CDS dial in case you get a range finder sometime. This combination will be good to ~500 yards and looses nothing up close.
