Hey guys
Picked up a DA Grizzly w. 18" barrel and S&J AR adapter w top rail. I'm thinking of switching to a DA 15" barrel, which a CGN member has offered me a great deal on (or a 14" if I could find a cheap one).

My problem is with the front sight. The barrel in question is the 15" barrel is the DA barrel pictured here:

Here's my shottie:

Yeah, that's a "custom" 10rd 12g mag. Ok, not really, just a cz858 mag for gags. ;)

Here's a closeup of the front of my barrel:

As you can see, comparing it to the 15" barrel, the front sight on the 15" is going to be blocked by my top rail.

Choices:
1) dremel the sight off the 15" (which ruins it for future use, though I can't see using it for anything but this) and may make it ugly.
2) cut the rail back to behind the sight, keeping the sight intact in case I hate it and want to sell it/go back to 18" later... though it'll probably look stupid in the meantime.
3) find a 14" barrel without the sight issue. Would be open to suggestions on where to get one.

I'm leaning towards #1, but thought I'd run it by you guys for some insight, since I know a bunch of you have built these before.

All advice appreciated!

Edit: one more thing, I could use suggestions for front sling attachments too. THanks!

Good job. I am waiting to get a12.5" grizz myself but in the meantime I an trying to design my own custom mag for it. I see you have made one and it looks good. Did you make it curve like an ak mag on purpose? I am want to make my custom mag ar15 style. Can machine floolate no problem. How did you do springs and the follower? Great build. For sight. Just keep it as is for when you want to sell it and strip all your mods off for a new shotty.

build steps/instructions/process on the mag or GTFO klenzer. :D
i say that in the nicest way possible.btw.

So how did you do it? can we see more pics?
is it actually real? cuz if it is, there will be sh*tstorm of members eternally grateful.

x2!!

I had the same problem as you and took option #2; I cut the front 2 or 3 splines off of the rail. Does it look dumb? A little bit maybe, but I have the rail and didn't have to cut into my barrel.

With the ring sight in the front I can actually use the top half of it and the channel down the middle of the rail to get a decent sight picture though (hey I had to check, it's right there) :D

Now, about that mag....

Sub dermal, how come your barrel looks shorter than klenzer's grizzy? Do you guys both know that you got the older model of the mesa hightube adapter? I am still looking around gptactical sells the newer one in a kit for $400 kind of pricy but it has grip, stock, itt recoil and rail along with the hightube

jebesus Sub, something tells me you don't have to worry about muzzle jump with that fore end assembly!

although, never been a big fan of the high tube assembly, it looks damn good on yours.

Camera angle! It has nothing to do with genetics :p

No, I bought one with the 15" barrel, which is what Klenzer is talking about swapping to. In his pic he's got the 18" on it.

I didn't know I even had one. I have the S&J "AR15-870 CQB MKII". There is a MarkIII now, which addresses the only complaint I had with the MkII (can't use oversized safety). Not a big enough deal for me to buy a new one right away, but if I were to build another CQB shotgun I'd definitely go for the III.

Nope, although the light bracket couldn't stand up to the recoil apparently :( The VFG is still good, but that whole assembly now has to go, if I want a light. Having your tacticool light suddenly go clattering downrange is not optimal :D

Thanks! I think it looks and feels much better than the "regular height" versions.

so what is better to have? a 12.5" barrel or a 15" barrel?

12.5 would be handier around corners and a bit lighter, gives up a little velocity. On a tactical build, so long as you aren't sacrificing too many rounds in the magazine, typically speaking the shorter the better. It's not like you are swinging on 50y ducks with it.

I am working on a double stacked magazine. I need to get supplies to make a silicone mold and work on perfecting the follower. The follower is what makes or breaks a magazine.

Guys, I just ordered a utg commado rail for a sks. It looks like it can fit the grizzly with a few mods and require you to use a short forend. If someone can supply me the measurements from the front of the reciever to the back. Also where the mounting screws are on top. The height of the barrel and magtube. Once I have the product in I willlet you guys know if it will work. I have to work with number right now because I have to wait till next year for a grizzly. You guys can email me if your interested in my project.

I'm such an a**hole...
It's just a CZ858 mag that I tossed in for the photo as a gag. Didn't think anyone would believe me for a second. :D You can :kickInTheNuts: me now.

Hehehe, I knew what it was, I just thought you actually converted it, I was going to mention that the rivet is still in it :kickInTheNuts: If I took half a second then, like I just did now, to check google, I'd have known that no way is a shotgun round going to fit in that magazine. You got me good there.
