Okey,
First let me explain why i wrote this thread in this section.
I am an Hunter, but i often need to shoot in the 500 yards. Think whatever you want, but i want to shoot with a 30-06. I have my reasons...
So, I need your advice on a 30-06, very accurate for an hunter, not for a sharpshooter. It need to be a carabine accurate summer as winter, in the rain and under minus zero celcius. Please, tell me what would be your choice on a budget (600$) or less. Also, if you have any idea for a scope, let me know.

Try the Savage 11x models, Weatherby Vanguard series 2 and Remington 700 SPS rifles. You will find other makes and models in the $600.00 price range that are just as accurate but those 3 will be your best bet for out of the box accuracy. For a scope you can go with the industry standard 3-9x models although I prefer a lower range 1.75-6x model. I find the Nikon Prostaff scopes to be very good quality for the price. Next, buy a bunch of different ammo types, try them all until you find the one the rifle likes best and use that for hunting. With a selection of about 10 different kinds of ammo you should have 1 or 2 that will shoot 1" @100yds maybe even a little under. I would recommend you use bullets in the 165-180grs range. I really like the standard Hornady loads with the 180grs BTSP...they have been accurate in most 30-06 rifles I've shot with and they work great on everything from coyotes to moose. I would also like to add that 500 yards is a very long shot...one the majority of hunters should not try on game animals unless they pratice lots at those ranges!

Try and find a nice Vintage Rem 700 60s or 70s where well made rifles, get it bedded, mach sure barrel is good and clean.
Nosler 165gr with R17

I'd say if you can hit a gallon milk jug with a cold bore shot EVERY time at whatever given range then go for it.

Oh, and I love my savage 110(for a budget rifle) but I stick to 300yds or less which is pretty far but I think with good glass it would be minute of deer at 500.

Really, all modern rifles probably shoot better than you. get whatever color you like....

rem, savage, whatever. I have a savage 111, works fine.
