need advice on building heavy jacket .458 bullets

I recieved my 458 dies today to make flatnose and roundnose .458 bullets up to 650 grns with .040 and .065 jackets.My question to the experts mainly deals with 45-70 rifles and 400 grn flatnoses .Where should I put the cannular from the base of the bullet???? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

It depends.
I'm not a bullet maker, but, I do know that the old springfields and other single shots can tollerate longer OAL than Lever guns.
Marlin leverguns as I understand it, are somewhat sensetive in that area, and can Jam fairly seriously. Both Marlin and Winchester have fairly short chambers as well, limiting your OAL.
I suggest you measure a standard bullet for cannelure height and work from there.
