Need Advice on Colt Trooper MkIII

I got offered a BNIB 6" Colt Trooper MkIII .357 today. Comes in the original box with Colt logo styrofoam inserts, all original documentation, etc. and the hand tag still on the gun. Looks to have only been test fired. Came out of an estate this way.

The gun is as nice as any Trooper MkIII is likely to be found and costs $620 (no tax) from the estate (non-negotiable).

Based on the price and condition, should I pull the trigger on this gun? I have no idea what they are going for in Canada these days. I'm really on the fence as I just bought a new 4.2" 686 last week and a 460V over the weekend... I kinda already have .357 covered off, but then, I'm a sucker for blued halflug wheelguns...

Thoughts?
 
If you buy it and regret it, you can always resell it, and $620 for a NIB Colt sounds like a pretty good deal to me,esp. with all the packaging and etc. In that condition it might have a collectible premium value.

Heheh...do what you've already decided to do...
 
Somewhat less than it is now, or somewhat less than $620?

It's a nice gun, just debating if it's worth the asking price in today's market. I generally am a S&W guy moreso than Colt.

PS: It's definitely been fired - Colt fired every revolver at least 6 shots at the factory to check function before they shipped ;)
 
I maybe out to lunch but if it's NIB as delivered from the factory with all the papers and tags still on it then I think it's worth quite a bit more than $620 to a collector. You shoot it and it'll be worth $620 and you will lose out on potentially making a couple of hun or maybe more by flipping it.

I would look into it a fair amount more before I feed it anything but snap caps to try the trigger.
 
If you ever break the firing pin on that gun you will have to send it back to Colt. It requires specialty tools to change the firing pin out. Other than that it's a fine hand gun.
 
Thanks guys, I think I'll likely pass on it. I wasn't buying for need, only looking to see if it was a tremendous deal for the price - which it appears not to be. If everyone had chimed in saying it should be priced $800 or $1000, I'd have bought it. But not with no profit room on a gun I don;t really need and wasn't really looking for.

That being said, I was very impressed with the sights. Very adjustable with a great sight picture.

Its worth what anyone is willing to pay for it. A Colt revolver that is no longer in production but is in new condition to my way of thinking is worth considerably more than $620 (I bought mine back in the day for $160) and I would buy it without reservation for up to $750. But as you say, you've got the .357 thing covered with your Smith, so unless you have a desire to own old Colts, its better to pass.

I have to agree with Boomer here big time, BNIB 6" Colt Trooper Mk III .357 for $620 is a great deal. For one you cannot buy one from a gun store today BNIB. Nothing against Ruger but what is a comparable model going for and remember it doesn’t have any collector value. If you are not going to buy it I would at least post where it is so some other Gun Nut can.
 
If anyone wants it, it's now at Gunco in Ottawa. Beautiful piece. 613-224-6266 (no website). I think it's priced $550 plus tax and ship now that it's at a retail store.
 
Good gun, I have a 6" trooper mkIII in .22lr. definitely heavy for the caliber but its a good practice gun when Im cheap and dont shoot .38.
