Need advice on getting my scope leveled on my precision rifle

I've looked back 36 months on the thread search and can't find any info on leveling a precision scope.. I'm running a bushnell 4200 6-24x50 on a savage 10bat-s/k... I have tried to run a torpedo level on the rail of the rifle to level the rifle first whilst in the vice, then try to level the scope on top of that by putting the level on the top turret... It's seems to me that there must be a more precise way to do this, perhaps a better level made specifically for this purpose...

Any and all info is greatly appreciated

i used callipers and measured from rail to scope front and back and made sure the distances were the same. didnt worry about a real world level.

if there is a flat spot between the bottom of the sope and top of the receiver, a feeler guage will do exactly what you need it do.

I like to level the rifle in some sort of vice like arrangement, and aim at a plumb line ( string with a weight hanging down).

I have seen in the cabelas catalog a set called level level level cross hair allignment levels don't know if they work but I was thinking of getting a set.
Has anyone else tried these?

All those leveling devices will work OK assuming...that your reticle is mounted perfectly square in the scope body. We sometimes find reticles that are off a couple of degrees with respect to the body and thus any leveling comparison will be off as well (this includes some higher end scopes). The Level Level Level works as good as any we found but to be honest experience is the best way of leveling the reticle. We use a right angle mark on the floor and then confirm with a distant level line at the end of the shop. Phil.

this is the best method. i tried everything before stumbling upon using a plum bob using a red colored chalk line and your rifle levelled with a bipod or shooting bench. it makes a marked improvement when there is no cant in your optics
