I have been unable to trouble shoot a feeding issue I,m having with my rifle. I,m hoping someone else has had and corrected this problem. Here's what I,m working with.
Rem 700 L.H. action
IBI prefit 6 Creedmoor
Older Cadex Chassis does not have a adjustable mag catch
MDT 10 rd. poly /metal and a all metal 12 rd.
So when the mags are fully loaded and the striker removed I can get the rifle to feed smoothly in the house.
When i shoot at the range the first 5 shots run smoothly at shot 6 it stops when I look at the mag i can see the remaining cartridges are tipped down and with bullet of shot seven contacting the binding plate.
The two loads i,ve been shooting are a 108 ELDM 2.800 OAL and a 112 barnes at 2.760 OAL.
I,ve tried polishing the follower and adjusting the feed lips as per youtube videos but the problem remains.

My guess is that rounds in the magazine are slowly moving forward under recoil, and by the 6th round, they are far enough forward that they are catching on the feed ramp.

Is your feed ramp notched? That could potentially be a quick (and worthwhile) solution.

I had to do this on an older Defiance Rebel action I had in order to get it to feed reliably.

As Kthomas said, notching the feedramps is a worthwhile modification. Easy to do at home with a dremel and a steady hand and then you can run mags with no binder plates and load your ammo out longer.

Seems off. My 6.5 ammo does not move forward enough to cause any feeding problems and I don’t have a notched feed ramp. ( Savage in an MDT chassis. ) What about adjusting the lips with the rounds all the way to the front of the mag? Then slide them back all the way and see if it still feeds?

No the springs on MDT mags are pinned to the follower. I will have to study up on the feed ramp mod.

I had a similar issue with my Cadex in 6.5CM using MDT and AM no binder plate mags. The 3rd round or so would have the bullet tip catch under the feed ramp, so I notched it. This helped but wasn’t a 100% fix so I went back to using AICS Pmags and haven’t had an issue since.

Thanks for your reply, I have mags with binder plates. As I understand it you use non binder plate mags when you want to increase your cartridge overall length and on a Rem. 700 you need to alter your feed ramp to make them work. So my works great for the first 5 rounds and then it hangs up with the remaining tilted down .
