Hey guys. I am recently getting into the centerfire world with a purchase of a .223. I have read alot of good things about bushnells 3200 10X40. Is 10X enough for say shooting groundhogs out to 250 yards? I currently use a .17hmr for ground hogs every year. I can't wait to try my .223 once I get a scope for it. Looking for a good clear scope for 250.00 range.
Thanks

That scope will work fine. We use them on the ORA Intro Day rifles and shoot out to 500 yards with them. I have seen guys shooting 1000 yards with that same scope.

I think you're on the right track with a 4-12x, as it will make the rifle a lot more versatile. Even in the varmint patch, there are plenty of times when 10x is probably too much magnification. And if you start using that rifle for foxes or coyotes in the winter, the having 4x on the low end will be extremely useful when you're calling them in close.

A Leupold 4-12x40mm is what I have on my favorite .222 Rem, and it has really helped maximize the rifle's usefulness on everything from gophers to coyotes.

Those Leupold's sure carry quite the price tag for a gun I use to kill woodchucks with.. Maybe I should look into bushnell 3200 or something??

There are some nice Bushnells to be seen here...

I'd go for the 4200 if I just had to have a Bushnell. You need to look through the optics of the 3200 and 4200 side by side to appreciate that as always, you get what you pay for.

Not necessarily. The 4-12x I use on my .222 is a Leupold VX-I. Not their clearest scope, for sure, but clear enough -- I've had absolutely no problem popping gophers with it out to 250+ yards. Wholesale Sports lists them at $369, which is just $10 more than a Elite 3200 in 4-12x. Look through both, and choose the one that looks clearest to you.

I agree that the Bushnell 4200 is very good glass for the money, and a big step up from the 3200 series. But these seem to hover around the $500 mark.

Thanks alot guys!
Can you order scopes from that optics planet?? I didn't think they could ship rifle scopes across the border?
Thanks NEO for the tip on the leupold VX-I. That looks like a pretty good possibility for me. A bit more than I wanted to spend but maybe worth saving up for.

I also have a 4 X 12 Burris on my 222 and find it to be a good set up for most of my shooting situations. There hasn't been too many times that I've wished for more than 12 X, and 4 or 6 X is good for shooting at jack rabbits up close.
