Hello gents...
I need your advice on a scope mount MOAs...
know that for long shooting the base with 20MOA is used, but how will it behave at 100m??? have seen a guy who installed 20MOA base and was not able to bring his scope in "0" at 100m....
will 10MOA base cover both situations for 100m and 1000m???
any input is appreciated :)
thanks
regards

you should be good with 20MOA base my LTR zero with no problems with my Warne base

Get some Burris Signature rings with offset inserts. By changing the inserts you can have 20 MOA without the expence of a 20MOA base.

I'm with Skullboy on this one, Richard Near makes an excellent product and is very fair to deal with. If you are interested, he makes a great set of rings too.

I agree with Maynard. The Zee Burris Signature rings (mount on std weaver bases) with pos-align inserts is the best way to go in my opinion. Not only do you get the amount of MOA shift you want on the elevation but you can also center the scope for windage without using the adj. knob (or very little)

As Peter Dobson says, a 65MOA scope with 20MOA vertical shift will let you shoot both at 100 and 1000 yds unless you shoot black powder. a std 308 will need around 35 MOA from 100 to 1000 and if you start at -20 it leaves you 12 MOA from bottom of adj. (65/2 = 32.5 and -20 = 12.5)

when you are at 1000 yds you have added 35 MOA to the 12 which is 47 or 15 more than center (47 - 32 = 15) being near the center of adj is what you want at long range where you might need a lot of wind adj.

you cannot apply a lot of wind adj. at the top or bottom of adj. because the inner tube is near the outer tube and going sideways will make the inner tube contact the outer tube sooner (bottoming out)

I like the Leupold LR tactical 4.5-14X 30mm tube 50mm obj. because it has 95 MOA total but you may not need that unless you want to shoot at 1500m with a magnum such as a 7mmSTW with 180 VLDs at 3000 fps (supersonic beyond 1 mile)

The Burris Signature Zee rings w/pos align inserts are the cheapest to do this job and they are very accurate set-up. I have used them both in Palma match (800-900-1000 yds) in Albany and F-Class up to 1000 yds.

You can even install a .020 inch thick brass shim under the rear base to get your 20 MOA of elev. shift or so. the pos-align inserts will absorb the difference in level of the 2 bases instead of bending the scope.

you can calculate the exact thickness you need by measuring the distance between the rings and translating into the required angle in MOA (one minute of angle is 1/60 degree) and tangent of 20 MOA = tangent of 20/60 degree or 0.333 deg.
tangent 0.333 deg = shim thickness / distance between rings
since tan (0.333) = .006 and if ring spacing is 4 inch you need .006 x 4 = .024 inch which is near my .020 inch shim on rear base. Ah Ha, Familiprix!

Burris scope rings with bushings are a good compromise and very flexible. Only problem is if you don't have a one piece base / rail, you will likely have limited mounting positions for your rings and that could cause problems supporting or mounting a scope in the right position (pending scope/rifle combinations). Nothing is free.... Now take a 0moa 1913 base and add the rings with offset kit...=...lots of flexibility.

Farrell bases are nicely made but a bit high. They are also not made to 1913 specs. Ken makes them for many rifles which is great since many manufacturer's offer limited selection and sometimes only 0 or 20moa. Ken offers a full range of bases.

TPS nice bases available in ultra strong alum. 7075 (beats the pants off of 6061) and steel. Very reasonably priced. Second to none especially when price is considered.

Warne - nice but a bit pricey.

We carry all of the above.

Near - nicely made I believe the extra cost of these bases is hard to justify and the difference would be money better spent on other improvements. Pro - made in Canada, just expensive!

thanks you very much, guys....
I have Ferrel 0MOA scope base on my Savage and, yes, notised that it higher than I expected, but was compensated by adding low QR Lup rings to it :)
