Need advice on small framed .40 S&W

I am thinking of selling my P16-40 and getting a .40 cal with a smaller frame; maybe a single stacker. Basically, I have very short fingers, and with the arthritis getting worse over the years I just can't grip the P14 as I need to. I hate the thought of giving up the P14 as it is by far the most accurate pistol I own. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I might buy which would have a more easily gripped frame for me and at the same time keeping the cost under $1000.00? Thanks all.

Look at picking up a used STI Trojan (single stack 1911) in 40....
All the attributes that you seem to like, with a smaller grip.
