I've recently shot a friend's AR and was astonished at how smooth it was and what little recoil and muzzle rise it had. He was running a 12.5" carbine length with a surefire comp on it. I'm not sure what buffer it had.
I shoot a stock PSA 16" carbine length with a bird cage and an H2 buffer, I bought it used so i will assume that it's the stock buffer. The rifle has a quite a bit of kick and A LOT of muzzle rise compared to my buddy's AR. I need our advice on how to tame the gun while staying on a budget.
Here are the options I have, they can also be combined obviously. What do you guys think would bring the best results and if you're had experience with a similar setup, what worked for you? The only requirement is that the rifle should still be able to cycle on cheap underpowered ammo.
1) Heavier buffer
2) VLTOR A5 buffer tube/spring/buffer (I'm really curious about this one, a lot of people online are raving about this product, but i'm wondering what is the added benefit over a regular H2 buffer)
3) A good muzzle brake (Precision Armament M4-72, Surefire ProComp, Miculek comp)
4) Different barrel, either a 12.5" carbine or a 14.5"-16" midlength. This option is obviously the most expensive and most complicated to install. While I would like a shorter, lighter setup, there are not that many options in terms of barrels in Canada from what I can see, and what is available is above $400. This is my last last resort.
So what do you guys think? Is there anything else I'm missing? What offers the best improvement? Share your experiences.
