I have a russian refurb SKS and I have a problem with the stock having a terrible fit to the action. I can grab the action and move it about a 1/4 inch in the stock and as a result the gun shoots wherever the hell it damn pleases.

So my question is what should I do? Should I try to bed the stock? (Which is something I have never tried) Should I buy an aftermarket stock? If so, what one and how do they tend to fit the action?

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks!

Did you try tightening up the action screws?

You can move it 1/4" in what direction? Left/Right? Up/Down?

I can move the actions forward and backwards at least a quarter inch
Glass bed the front of the stock were the front furnel(metal flap were the cleaning rod goes threw) touches the stock. Then bed in the area an inch before and after the cross bolt. Then the last place is the rear of the stock you will notice the area were the trigger bar comes down the center of the stock. That area plus all the way up and over the lip were the rear of the receiver touches the stock.
Then enjoy as you will get back to loving your old faithful again.
