I am looking to join the gun club in the new year and most of my knowledge is about field guns, I am looking to buy an all around good shotgun for both field and sport.

About 25% Field and 75% Club.

I am thinking about pulling the trigger on the Browning Citori White Lightning 12 Gauge with 28" Barrel which is in my price range of about 2K

What are your thoughts is this a good gun for both?

Considering I am not a pro skeet shooter I just want a good gun to hold my own at the club for many years and I don't want to regret the purchase a few months down the road

I am very Partial to Browning as my whole collection is Browning.

Thanks for the input!

Just my opinion but I think a field gun is alot easier to use as both a field and sporting gun than specialized sporting gun is to use as a field gun.if your not shooting to be truely competitive but rather for the enjoyment of shooting you would be much better served by the field gun.

Thanks for the input, thats my exact thoughts as well and I figured with the 28" barrel its short enough for the woods and long enough for the club!

I shoot a 26" bbl citori field gun for sporting clays ,skeet and trap .it is certainly not the ideal choise for sporting type shooting but I hold my own with it. all that practice with it sure pays off in the field though.

Agree 100% with Rembolt but I would stay with the 28" just incase you want to do some duck hunting with it or decide to sell down the road. Personally I don't notice a difference shooting a 26 or 28 but a 28" barrel will quickly sell over a 26 every time if you ever decide to move it. The last 15 years or so longer barrel seems to be the one to have for skeet etc

I don't think you would even notice the difference between 26" and 28" in the field as an O/U is pretty short to start with.the longer barrel will also help with a smoother swing.

Just make sure it fits you right and the sight picture is one that you are comfortable with. BTW, the Lightning has a flat rib. Therefore, it is meant to have the barrel level with the target. The 625 Field, OTOH, has a sloping rib and is meant for a rising target, or one slightly above the bead. I prefer the latter.

If you intend to shoot trap, you will have difficulty with the Lightning. It will be a bit better for skeet, but not ideal, as skeet targets are also rising.

You may want to consider a Browning Maxus. It works well for clay target games, and will be a better waterfowl gun. OTOH, the Citori would be better suited to upland bird hunting, because of its shorter overall length.
