Had this posted at Milsurp .com and it's an awesome site but it just doesn't get the traffic we get here.

Alright, I know this much so far. One is a Ross 1907 and I'm not quite sure of the model number of the other (1907 Chapman)????? The longer bayonet is marked Chapman as the maker but I found an RE on the scabbard which means Remington, correct? The scabbard of the Ross is marked RRCI (Royal Infantry of Canada or something like that)? Anything else you guys can tell me? The longer one also has a big diamond with a J in it, I'm not sure what infantry or battalion it belongs to. Also, any idea of value, I've had one guy I know ask if I was willing to trade anything on it. The Ross bayonet scabbard is penciled with what I'm guessing is the original owners name and address. It says "S.C. Cameron, Emerson, Manitoba #R59307".

The Ross bayonet is a standard Mk. II, altered blade, made February, 1917. $75-$125.
The other is a standard bayonet for the SMLE, I would assume that Chapman was the contractor, also made 1917. The contractor could affect value, I don't know.

You have a either a Ross bayonet, MkI (modified) changing the blade shape and increasing the muzzle ring diameter from 14.2mm to 14.7mm OR a MkII (Modified.) by changing the blade shape. going by the grips, I would think it's a MkII

Now Remington made 100,000 P07 bayonets, and I,243.000 P13 bayonets.
The scabbards are the same. so finding a Remington scabbard on a Chapman wouldn't be all that unusual since it could have been switched at any time in the last 85+ years. Hardly something to worry about

Must have been switched during the war itself then cause these have been in the family since the day it ended.

Thats what I was thinking to.

Maybe sitting in a trench and got attacked and the scabbards got mixed up, wouldn't be a big confusion to slide it back into someone elses and they had yours.

Yup, that's one of those things that fascinates me most with milsurp junk, no matter what it is. You get to close your eyes and wonder ... Who was/were the guys it was issued to, and whatever happened to them ? Y'know ? Sometimes I wish they had kept better record back then so I could track down ACTUAL pieces of gear that were used by some of my family members ...

RRCo on the Ross scbd would be Ross Rifle Company the maker. The Ross bt is a MkII , unstepped muzzle ring and pommel stamped 11 for 1911 the pattern date of the MkII.

Green-Might one not suspect that the "II" on the MkII Ross bayonet could be Roman Numerals?
Smellie- Can you quote a source for your statement regarding a 26" bbl MkIII .303 variant for the Canadian Artillery? I've only collected and studied Rosstuff for firty-odd years or so, and am still learning.I've never heard of it.

Every MkII bt I have examined stamped with the 11 is definitely in Arabic numerals for IMHO it is the pattern stamp for 1911 which was the year of adoption. The MkIs are stamped 08 which was the year the bt was designed and they were referred to as P1908s.

Wilkinson Sword Co. 2,360,000
J.A. Chapman 300,000
Sanderson & Neubold 1,600,000
Vickers Ltd. 10,000
RSAF Enfield 500,000
Remington 100,000
R. Mole & Sons 60,000
The above are estimated figures.,

There's a Remington 1907 on ebay.ca, $44.00 to start. One for $150, even a Canadian marked 1907 bayonet for $68. Two Hooked Quillion bayonets $600 and a bunch of OZ bayos as well. Most bayonets sell at the $100 range at most, but I've seen allot sell for less.

============

I just found this Chapman bayonet for $76 cdn on ebay

Thanks Blatz, thats what I was looking for.

I'll just leave em the way they are in the EE and if a guy has an Ebay account, more power to him.

Not really in a rush to sell anyways, they just gimme the creeps that they might have been run through someones innards.

Prices are all over the place, I think your price is a good one. It's the Norm for a ross and smle bayo. The US has a good supply of surplus for a while that seems to buy pass Canada. Bying on ebay has a price....(FRAUD ALERT), boarder issues, etc.

Pete

The man's serial number on the scabbard is a World War Two RCAF number, not too far from my Dad's serial number. If I owned the thing I think I would be trying to detail its provenance.
