little backstory, I was given this rifle by a family member, they havent gone shooting in forever, gave me all their guns rather then have them destroyed. while going through them this one rifle caught my eye, more to the point the caliber is what caught my eye. it says 300 W, thats it now ive asked around to a few friends, did a little online searching even searched this forum and i cant find anything that it comes up as. they uncle doesnt even recall what it means as he was more of a shotgun guy then anything. so if anyone has any insight on what this caliber is i'd really appreciate it.

Thanks.

Vaguer than vague. I wouldn't commit to anything based on that, hell it could be 300Win Mag, 300Weatherby Mag, or a poorly read 308win. Pics would help. If we are all just taking guesses mine is for a 308W for 308 Winchester, but its just a guess.

I thought there are a difference of I.D. if the barrel between the Weatherby and the Winchesters? Did any ammo come with these rifles? There are ways you can find out most of witch were posted but getting snap caps in the there calibers listed then using a go and no=go gage in the calibers that fit... Or you could take it to a real gun store or Gunsmith. there has to be some other markings it may be a symbol or some markings.

Start with the .300 Weatherby if that won't fit then try the 300 win mag if that is to big I would bet it is a badly stamped 308 Winchester and try the 308 snap cap.

Make sure that you oil the snap caps and you SLOWLY cycle the round in feeling for biting or tension; IF is not feeding smoothly then stop and try another caliber... I am thinking this would be a bolt action rifle right...?
