Need help. 10/22 FTF.

Hi Guys,

my 10/22 has seen quiet a few rounds and recently it doesnt fire every few rounds. It makes a small print on the rim but not enough to fire the round.

I have previously (years ago) remachined the trigger component (sears and such) surfaces where they interlock to make the trigger smoother (worked well). It worked well and for years just recently it FTF.

Initially I was thinking maybe the firing pin is released before the bolt is closed and such doesnt have enough energy to compress the rim/primer enough. But also I am wondering if its the firing pin/spring.


I cant find a firing pin/spring online though...

Any ideas which parts I should buy and where?

Can you feel the hammer drop when a round fails to fire? If the hammer is following the bolt forward, it won't be able to drop when you pull the trigger. It should feel different.

I'd remove the trigger group and inspect it's operation and the components. I'd also remove the firing pin and clean it, inspect for wear, also clean and inspect the chamber area.

Cant remember . last time I shot it was last summer because it didnt work :(

Cleaning al that is a good idea, I will do that... also a new firing pin cant hurt
 
I cleaned the gun thoroughly, including taking the firin pis out and cleaning it and the channel it sits in.

It worked much better, just had one failure. The rim had a slight imprint and upon closer inspection it looks like my firing pin is worn ..

I cant find any online :( Some places claimj they ship to canada but then they dont ... Does anybody kow where I can get such firing pin?

You can buy factory replacement firing pins on brownells (ruger part B-11).

I've recently been having 5% failures to fire with my older 10/22 and Dynapoints. I cleaned the firing pin and area, and also installed a Wolff Xtra Tune Up Spring Pak (brownells), which has an extra power hammer spring, extra power trigger spring, and reduced power sear spring. I'm hoping the extra power hammer spring will solve the failures to fire. I haven't yet had a chance to test it at the range.

FYI, if you do order small parts from brownells, keep the order under $100 to avoid annoying export paperwork.
 
I ordered a whole buch of springs and firing pin from Brownells ... I think very copious amounts of amm being fed has worn mine out ..

I just mail ordered ... I ordered a steel pin because I think the higher mass will fire more reliably over a lighter titanium pin.

In my opinion titanium is a much overrated material in applications other than aerospace
 
just subscribing to the thread. I'm having a similar problem with my ruger 10/22. Let me know if the firing pin solves your problems.

I will let you know when I have a chance to try the stuff.


I can already tell you that it made a big difference to rempve the firing pin and clean all the gunk out from the channel it runs in. Also all around clean of the action helped.

I can see that my firng pin is worn, so a new one should be much better.

You should start off with a thorough clean and firing pin inspection

Ya I did all the cleaning already and I'm still misfiring every 5 shots.
 
I received my parts. I installed:


- Heavy duty hammer spring

- Steel firing pin (I dont think titanium as any value in a firing pin)

I wanted to install a new recoil spring but ordered the wrong one.

Will report back when I shoot the rifle.
