Hey guys/gals I need some input on a new hopefully do it all pretty good scope.

I hunt deer at 105 yards, elk at 50-400 yards and moose out to about 700 yards and to do this i'm choosing between 3 guns 30-30/30-06/338 lapua.

I dont want to have to flip a coin on guns (more so scopes) anymore so I purchased a tikka 300WM id like to put a FFP MOA 3 +/- to 14 +/- magnification, 30 mm tube, 44-56 mm obj, and to top it off have capped turrets for beating in the bush and not worrying about it.

I feel that the FFP is a no brainer for me on this one. Weight isn't an issue so the bigger the tube and obj the better, capped turrets can be taken off if poking holes in paper at 1000 but if i'm poking a hole in a moose at 700 i will shoot off the reticle no time to dial and don't want them out to lunch.

The SHV is about the only thing I can really find covering pretty close to what i'm looking for and that's why i'm here, Is there anything similar and what do you guys recommend?

Thanks

Locking turrets would suit your needs and open up the options in a FFP scope.

I really like my Vortex Strike eagle 5-25x56 and it isn't too heavy. They do make a 3 - 18 x 44 version as well.

Jerry at Mystic Precision turned me on to the Athlon product line. They are really picking up market share in the US. I paid 550.00 for my 6-24, Wolverine sells these as well and speak very highly of this line. So you can spend 400.00 to 2000.00 on a scope from Athlon.

My buddy has taken a couple of moose at 800 yards with his 300 WM.
He uses a 3200 ?? bushnell set on 4x.

Thanks for all the input, I have the identical SHV right now and love it just wanting to try a FFP, will be adding the vortex to the list though. Also looked at mystics website and it wasnt very useful..

A couple moose at 800 on 4x? your buds either a legend, full of doo doo or emptying mags and hoping for the best. Thats a big beatuiful animal that deserves a little more respect then a 4x 300wm at 800 yards IMO

Appreciate the comments please keep them coming

I’ve personally seen him shoot two, maybe he had it on 6x , I can’t remember, but his scope is 3x9.
And both times it was a one shot kill.
800 yards ain’t that far.

I was also considering the LHT 3-15x42, but went with a Steiner Predator 4 series 4-16x50 when on sale at Cabela’s for 999$ (plus free rings rebate from manufacturer). The Vortex seems nice if needing to dial shot on a regular basis. The Steiner has Burris’ E3 reticle (SFP) so you can use their online ballistic calculator and print a reticle dope card for different magnifications. Very good optics, capped turrets, solidly built, fantastic illumination, top warranty. They make a 2.5-10x42, but it sadly lacks parallax adjustment. Edit: typos.
