need help(again and again)identify this mauser

this one belongs to a friend,it has been badly bubbarized but behind all theses mutilations,history remains.i don't know much about mausers so if someone can help me finding out more about this one.

Most of the information you need to identify is in the pics. I am not an Imperial mauser guy but it looks to be a Gewehr 98 produced at the Danzig arsenal in 1916. Looks to have been rearsenalled at least once with all the lined out serials on the bolt. Like you said, bubba gave it the what for with the cut down barrel and stock. It should look like this:

Unfortunately, it's a bubba'd Gew98 and it should look like the "all correct" 1916 Gewehr 98 Rifle (click here) http://www.milsurps.com/showthread.php?t=73, shown in the Germany - Milsurp Knowledge Library (click here) http://www.milsurps.com/forumdisplay.php?f=15

The parts on eBay would sell for more than the rifle in the current state. If it was to be restored using the MKL entry as a guide, it would be more valuable.
